Superscaper would you build an aircraft if there were no airports to fly from????This is what Microsoft have done. The modem manufacturers have not helped by being late with their software but Microsoft should at least have admitted there would be a hiatus whilst they all caught up or were they slow releasing the code to them?Either way it doesn't help me and I feel ripped off.

    I think it works like.

    Microsoft announce o/s.

If a hardware supplier wants a driver included in the o/s, they supply it, and pay Microsoft to test it. If it passes tests, it's included.

5 years later, the o/s is released.

HP and Thomson didn't bother.. Not Microsoft's problem, they don't make the hardware..

Your driver may never come, I have loads of stuff bought pre-XP, without any drivers.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Well readers you are welcome to Vista.I shall have it removed and go back to XP,at least all of my peripherals, games and programmes work on it.
None of you have been able to tell me whether I can remove Vista, but thank you to those who posted the links.I just wish I had a bottomless pit of cash to go and buy all the new equipment and programmes I will need for this travesty!

I'm a little confused now, so far the only problem you have is that your modem manufacturer hasn't created any drivers yet. I'm a little confused why you bought a system without know that it would do everything you wanted and was fully Vista compatible. Surely if you bought the system and it came with Vista then it should be fully compatible. If you did then it's the fault of the people who supplied you system.

If however, which is what I imagine, you bought a system which included no modem and you then used a modem you already had then you should have first checked it was compatible before using it with Vista. A simple search on google would have told you it wasn't and then you could have chosen not to buy it.

To get rid of Vista simply boot from your Windows XP CD and choose to install the software, format the partition that Vista is on and install XP over the top.

No thanks, I'm going to wait until I've upgraded enough of my hardware for the Vista upgrade advisor to be comfortable with it.

I have to agree with the others.

It's not Microsoft's fault if a manufacturer hasn't released Vista drivers for their hardware. There are thousands, tens of thousands of manufacturers, millions of products. You really think it's Microsoft's fault if some don't work. I can assure you they don't have the time to go round and check with everyone.

And it's not like Vista hasn't been about for while. It's been in alpha/beta/release candidate state for a couple of years.

    It's just unfortunate.

My advice would be to stick with Vista. It's a superior OS to XP. It just takes time to iron out the problems. A router as mentioned, may be extra expense, but at the same time is a worthy investment (at least in terms of security and eas of use).

When I switched to Linux, my wireless card didn't work properly, and the ATI graphics driver support is awful. It's not the Linux community's fault, but the likes of ATI that have still yet to provide a decent solution. The trick is to carefully pick what you buy and check it's supported before buying it.

For the modem, there do seem to be a few solutions when googling about. It may be worth pursuing one of them first.
