    Did you predict it then?

Bit of a spurious argument as I never claimed I predicted it.

    OBR didn't forecast it.

Even shortchanged doesn't claim that about the OBR:
I've had enough of the scaremongering now because I always predicted a recession.
So I suppose you have to ask was it scaremongering or am I just brilliant at economics?
Seeing as myself and a few others on here managed to predict what the CBI, OBR and the BoE amongst others failed to predict.

He does claim predictive ability and he doesn't mention the words 'double dip' anywhere! :rotfl:

Come on guys, is that really the best you two can do in defense of your "Bear Buddy", shortchanged? Building strawman arguments? I mean really?

He did but what shortround actually predicted was that high oil prices would cause a recession with that Bloke from Devon trying to be Mr Muddle defending him... He got it wrong yet again...
Well seeing as both generally go hand in hand.
OK lets put it this way. I am confident enough to say if oil prices continue to rise then the UK will go back into recession.

What would be your take on my assumption chucky?

The thread is spent trying to educate shortround that he's wrong... But we never got through yet again...

btw at the time the oil price is about the same as it is now, I'd love to hear the explanations how high oil prices caused the current negative growth... Over to you shortround.

There is a big difference between pessimism and being realistic. Unfortunately the economy is a mess and not improving.

This is one thread I thought I would stay out of, just the usual childish !!!!!ing from the same posters.
But yours was the only sentiment that I agreed with Andy, what if someone calculated with 80% accuracy that a comet would hit the earth and wipe us all out in two years, would he be a doom monger?

There is an endless list of things that are a threat and could(probably) go wrong in the next 12 months, and I also agree that there are things if you look hard enough that could go right.
My personal feeling is that in 10 years time we are heading for a society in the UK that is far better than most could ever imagine today, I just think something awful will happen before that take place. and will also be the cause of a far better world.

These outlandish comparisons really give a good insight into the minds of the doommonger. It's really illuminating.

There is no doom. Things are just slow, that's all. It will pick up. Just keep throwing your spare cash into that FTSE tracker 'cos it's cheap innit?

Just eat your Weetabix every morning and...

No! Wait! That's yet another company taken over by China .........

and we know what the Chinese did to baby food :(

What if the sun was about to implode, Mars was about to crash into the earth and the blackhole at the centre of the galaxy was about to swallow everything up, would you then care how bloody minded and confrontational you think I am?

Really? No, I doubt it, so I have proven my point. :rotfl:

Sorry Foxy you talk total twaddle sometimes.

    What does that even mean?

LOL. Do you reckon he writes those Nigerian email scams in his spare time? They're on a par with the poor linguistic skills.

Does Dr. Mr. Foxy want to inform our good selves that we have fortunate time opportunity to help with Colonel Gaddaffi's Widow get money from secret bank account but must needs our good selves bank details and a small payment to cover CHAPS fee to make sure that better world replaces bad world without something awful happening in meantime?

Sorry if I seem to have rattled you renoman just because I have said that we would go back into recession and it now seems that we did.

If you go back to the OBR and pretty much all economic think tanks figures from 2010 I think you will find they forecast growth figures of well over 2% for the UK for 2012 and how many of these so called economic experts have said over the past year there will be no return to recession. How wrong they were.

What is the current prediction for growth for 2012 0.6%!! And that is optimistic at best.
