No, BT's Call Diversion Calling Feature does not accommodate a prefix in the 'divert to' string.

That's why I recommended Penny Mobile 2 some time ago - and am still using it myself to divert my calls to my mobile.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I am currently on Virgin Media Talk Weekend phone package and looking to get the Orchid Dialler to route calls as follows:
01,02,03 numbers at weekends thru Virgin
    All other calls thru 18185

However, I would like to add Primus Saver 2 to take advantage of free evening calls to 01,02,03 numbers.
Am i able to use Primus if my default is Virgin or can it only be used by BT?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the MSE forums get off that machine.

Only BT allows CPS calls providers. Do you pay line rental to BT or are you saying you have a Virgin cable landline?

  • Hi Heinz, thanks for the quick response.

I pay Virgin for my cable landline.

From what i understand, I can still use 18185 by using the 0808 freephone number?

Does this mean that with Virgin the only way i can get cheap calls is to use Virgin for w/e calls to 01,02,03 numbers and use 18185 for everything else?
I was hoping to use another provider to get free evening calls but from your response this doesnt sound possible?

    thanks again.

Unfortunately, your options for cheaper calls are very limited with a cable landline (in fact, they're very limited when you have an ordinary lanline if you pay line rental to anybody other than BT).

In your case, using 18185's freephone gateway number is likely to be your best bet - 1p/minute for UK 01/02/03 calls is a lot better than paying VM's prices.

Bear in mind though that VM could bar access to the gateway number if they chose to - they started barring access to some 0844 and 0871 gateways last year so they know how!

  • ok thanks Heinz. I'm still on a contract with Virgin so have little choice right now.
Thanks for your help, and regards.

Well tonight tried to sign up to Primus Penny Mobile 2 - Indian rep says they no longer do this option - Seems Heinz they have pulled the option - may try again tomorrow!

Need this so calls from my BT diversion landline to my mobile aren't excessive in cost, seems no other option available to me ?? Any one got any ideas please..

PM me an email address and I'll send you Primus's pdf about Penny Mobile 2 - which you may be able to use as 'ammunition' when you call back.

As I said, it's the CPS package I'm on - so it still exists, at least.
