aliaslotte wrote: »My hunt for a teaching position goes on... Today, I have been offered an interview/lesson observation. However, once again, it clashes with work. The school cannot change the time and I cannot swap my shift [due to it being such short notice]. So, I would have to call in sick - something I have never actually done in any job. I've been doing some more research into the school and I am not sure it is the school for me. And, from my placements, I know that can make all the difference. If you fit with a school, it is the best job in the world. When you don't or the school is full of internal problems [like my first], it is awful.
So, I'm torn now. Call in sick and give the interview a shot. Or, decline the interview [after all, I didn't have one when I woke up, so not having an interview when I go to bed is hardly a loss] and keep my fingers crossed for some of the more suitable positions I have applied for this week. I hate making decisions lol.
If it helps I would politely decline the interview and hold out for the more suitable positions. Simply because I hate phoning in sick!if you explain you cannot change your shift at short notice I think that's a perfectly reasonable explanation for not going.
But of course the decision is yours and I'm sure you'll do what's right for youHobnobs are like marines0 -

Happy Birthday Pinknfluffy!
How lovely msgigglewick. So want to be in the Christmas Spirit but being laid off this month plus a dissertation to write has just stressed me out to breaking point'They only had one cow!'0 -
metalmand Im sorry to hear you are having such a tough time, I agree totally, just a sit down and some 'me' time with a coffee and a mince pie can really help, Ive just done just that with a couple of Christmas DVDs (I just watched the Holiday again, my favourite!) and I feel much better just for doing that.
moneysavingmumofoneI know money worries are just the worst knot in your stomach ever and can lurk in the background all the time, you have all my sympathy and best wishes, if you ever want to chat it over we are happy to listen and if there is any way we can offer suggestions or help we are always here for you xx
aliaslotte reading your post, my first thought from an employer POV would be 'this is the sort of person I want', the fact you dont want to let your current position down with short notice or calling in sick is a great plus in your favour, anyone would be lucky to have an employee who is so commited and considerate and has such integrity. If its isnt the job for you and you dont feel it is right for you, I agree with politely declining .. after all, somebody may go after it and free up their old job which just might be your ideal job! karma works in mysterious ways! xx0 -
Ooo, I've just gone through my Christmas present list and had a pleasant surprise.
Total spend: £149.92. Total RRP: £370.20. Not bad.
I'm getting better at this MSE business, thanks to the great deals on the Grabbit and all the wonderful posters in this thread.0 -

Thank you both...
I am going to decline the interview today. And, I'm not going to mention it to my parents, as I can definitely live without the ear bashing lol.
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that something else turns up.0 -

aarrrghh I feel your pain. I hope you've taken the advice of our lovelies and have cleared your head. They are a very wise bunch
Moneysavingmumofone I'm glad you are both on the mend. Totally agree with what to do with conflicting opinions! Gut instinct time. xxx
Aliaslotte I totally agree with the words of wisdom above (from our lovelies) The perfect school will come along and snap you up- and you definitely deserve that:) And well done on the bargain presents. X
Pinknfluffy I've edited your original birthday message because it had a strange smiley on too - couldn't see what it was on my phone but now on the iPad it didn't look friendly. Apologies - poor eyesight xxxThe secret of Christmas

Please can you recommend some reasonably priced places for me to look for a xmas jumper for my bf? I've looked in Primark and New Look and Tesco and not had any luck so far. Thanks xFTB Tracker

Snugglebunny8 wrote: »re the film, loved it! lovely warm Christmas film, but wouldnt watch it with littlies, as the little boy is asking how Santa can do it all etc, and the guest goes up onto the roof and makes footsteps and jingle bell sounds, and also the gift under the tree is one you see the mum getting, and he thinks its from Santa, so best not let little ones see it or you may open a can of worms!
If I watch a Christmas film with my DS's I am constantly on tenterhooks in case any one 9in the film) says anything 'inappropriate'. I don't even like them them to listen to ' Grandma got run over by a reindeer', which is on a kids cd in my car. :rotfl:So want to be in the Christmas Spirit but being laid off this month plus a dissertation to write has just stressed me out to breaking pointmsgigglewick wrote: »Had the spirt of christmas really hit me this morning.. was out for our morning walk after the school run and in tescos i was showing libbie the small prelite real xmas trees (the £10 ones) and this old gentleman we often see on our walks came up and spoke to libbie all about the lights on them, she was in her element (lights are her fav subject atm) and he offered to buy her the pretty tree.. i wouldn't let him though and said i'd get her one.. he went off and while i was paying he came up again and passed her a xmas lolly pop lol she said the most clearest ty i've heard from her ever! and he went off smiling.
Its really put a smile on my face, i don't even know his name just someone who has always stopped to talk to me the 6 years i've lived here. !It's what it's all about really isn't it?
