6 weeks to go :T
Still workign away at things - I have the 'bought' gifts done, just the handmade stuff that I'm still working on
My eldest DS made me smile. He is 13 so obviously knows who does all the real work at Christmasbut he is SO good at keeping up the magic for the little ones, he has never slipped up at all. I commented on how good he was and he said 'I know but you make it sound so real, I keep forgetting the truth' :rotfl::rotfl::T

Hi
I have been reading this thread for a wee while and love it. It has given me so many ideas. Thank you!
I love Christmas, and love to start planning way in advance. My oldest now doesn't want to believe in Santa and i am a bit gutted. However i just keep telling her i still believe.
We kind of do a Secret Elf thing. I have a large wooden Advent Calendar and each day there is a note left from the elf with a new message which could be somehing like asking them to find the Gold coins the elf has hidden around the house, Colour some picture he has left, write their xmas cards, tickets to see panto or film at cinema. If i go to B&M they usually do Christmas packs which i stretch over a couple of days. They used to love it in the past i just hope this year she is till going to get as excited (like me)
She has her friends sleeping over all weekend and i am going to get them to make Chocolate stirrers with Candy canes someone posted a picture of. They are fab.
I love this thread! Thank you!0 -
I love the sounds of your Christmas elf leaving little notes lilac_lee, sounds like fun! Even if your oldest doesn't really believe anymore hopefully these little things will still be exciting for her. Look at all of us, we've known for a long time but still get excited at the littlest things!0

Sorry if this has been posted (have been away since Thursday and dread to think how many pages I have left to catch up on later).
For people living in Cumbria area when I went past Saturday HAyes garden centre (Ambleside) had a lovely christmas display - couldn't go in tho as was short on time.
Also went to the Thomas day at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway who gave us a generic discount code for their bookings for the Santa Special (think it makes it £10 a ticket or something). Won't post it here but if you can make use PM me.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
On My Own - if you're still looking for seeds for your seed sliders, I've just had an email from garden 4 less saying their seeds are 53p while stocks last.

Yesterday I bought some snowflakes fairy lights in argos, half price so only 4.99
I wanted them to go over my living room mirror so whilst the kids were eating I was testing out the length. DD1 begged me to leave them up so I have! They look so cute!
Been to asda today and bought some more food for my Xmas box and a roll of hello kitty paper for the DD1 and Minnie Mouse paper for DD2
At the weekend I bought my dd1 a new dress for Xmas and today I bought her another for Boxing Day (visiting family) so now I need to find 2 dresses for DD2. I shall look at the weekend.0 -
Some wonderful items and makes on here
I've usually got most things planned out by now at least but have just been snowed under the last few months so have been very disorganised - only bought my first pressies last week!! Anyway will be hanging around to hopefully get some ideas and inspirations. Only 6 weeks to go!!

For the second year running one of my friends has made comments on how weird it is that I love Xmas so much.
This is purely down to the fact that I have no children.
Last year I mentioned how much I was excited about Crimbo and she just said straight out 'what, even though you've got no kids?' Then just last weekend I said again I'd been watching Christmas 24 and was trying to hold off on listening to SmoothXmas full time and she said something like 'you're the last person anyone would think would be excited by Christmas, having no kids you know'.
Now I am child free by choice so it wasn't that she was being insensitive about my status in life, but I just find it quite sad that someone like me should be expected to be all bahhumbug about it.
Anyone else have this kind of thing? I will admit, I love the run up to it and the day but by Boxing Day I'm just enjoying have a rest and it's all over for me, which is what I did say to her. But is it so odd that I get all festive and love the atmosphere and the build up and the music?I'm single too so actually I wake up on crimbo morning on my own but that doesn't stop me either.
In fact maybe it's cos I am on my own that my expectations will not be dashed eh?0 -
Im thinking about making a chocolate slab for my step dad who is diabetic, so does diabetic chocolate melt the same way and set the same as regular chocolate? Should I just make him a mini hamper???
Diabetic chocolate is ferociously laxative in large quantities, so maybe making smaller chocolates rather than a slab might prevent him from getting carried away and then things going horribly wrongI am pretty sure it behaves like regular chocolate aside from its digestive side-effects though.

I hate that too, although my 3yo has taken to piping up, THAT LADY WAS VERY RUDE, MAMA! SHE DIDN'T SAY THANK YOU! and that helps. I have to say though, if I excuse myself please and someone doesn't move, the next step is a snappy, EXCUSE ME PLEASE before I get cross and walk through through them.
Had a message from my SIL last night. I was all organised and wrapped all the birthday gifts for all the kids on my list at once. Thought I was brilliant, but apparently I got my niece's gifts slightly mixed up. I sent them a puzzle I also sent her last birthdaywhich means I suspect that my friend's son opened a Disney princess set this morning. Oops.

What a ridiculous thing for someone to say!
It's not remotely odd. I love Christmas more than anyone I know and I have no kids.:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0
