I want to get so much for my mum but this is my first xmas not working! It sucks! I am determind she will have an amazing christmas. We have also decided instead of getting a big heavy over priced turkey for christmas like we usually do asda do lovely whole turkey breast for 5er no bones no waste cook from frozen we tried it the other night and was lovely! So next week getting 2 for the freezer and stuffing and mini sausages for the freezer so thats some of the xmas food shop started!
We put decs up usually between 8th-12th xmas. I am also looking for cheap films or recording films for us to watch xmas day!
plus I have been so worried about it being just me mum and brother on xmas day (last year my auntie uncle stayed) and years before that dad lived with us... but now auntie and uncle have said they will be here for xmascant tell u guys how happy that makes me!
Anyway well done if you read that mammoth post lol!NanMias - cyber granddaughter!

Oh I love this thread so much
I read every day but never feel like I can contribute as I am not crafty or making anything! But I do adore Christmas...does that qualify me to be here?

Morning. I spent the evening painting wooden snowflakes, adding bells and drinking Baileys. I never seem to want it any other time of year.
We always put our tree up on the first. The kids wouldn't wait another day. Our Christmas elf arrives in the morning of the 1st with their advent calanders and some Christmas crafts and activities to do during Dec.
Today I am babysitting my friends twin girls as well as my own 3 kids. It's an Inservice day here, and my friend is working. So it could be mayhem! I plan to get Christmas films on for them and get them painting some decorations. Wish me luck:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

Quick question: When do you all decide to write out christmas cards & get the tree + decs out? Is now too early??
my decs go up DEC 1st and Ive ''accidentally'' posted my cards already .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Our tree and decorations will go up on the weekend that is closest to two weeks before Christmas, so this year I think it will be around the 7th. However, as soon as December hits I will start bringing out little bits and pieces gradually so by the time we get the tree, all the other bits will already be out, if that makes sense!
I'm excited as I just ordered a little turkey crown for us. We will be going to my uncle's on Christmas Day and I am really not sure about it (usually we have it at my mum's but he has done huge home renovations over the last year and he wants to host). I hear he is a good cook but I am worried it will be all 'fancy food' which has its place, but on Christmas Day I want very traditional fare, yes cooked beautifully and tasting gorgeous but not 'messed around with'! So I am gutted about not having Christmas at my mum's, it just won't be the same at all. However I tentatively raised the idea of my OH and I staying at home on the day and my mum got really upset so we will go. Anyway...the point of what I was saying....we have bought a turkey crown for the freezer and we will have our own Christmas dinner on a different day, so at least I will get my 'proper' Christmas dinner and that makes me feel better about having to go to my uncle's!OH has a daughter who sometimes comes to stay for a few days around the Christmas period so if she does that this year (she is getting less and less enthusiastic as she is 16 and has a boyfriend and a big social life she doesn't like leaving behind!) then I will do a Christmas dinner when she is h and have 'fake Christmas Day' for her where she gets to open her presents and everything

Off to Basildon tomorrow, the home of the cheap shops. Got planned visits to 99p shop, 98p shop, poundland, poundworld, QD Primark and if i can squeeze in a trip to home bargins. Think i might need a wee drink on my return :rudolf::rudolf::xmassmile
I used to live in Basildon, mind you it was only for a year before I moved back home to Belfast. I left just before the recession but I do miss Wilkos!! lolLife is what you make it.0
