  • i have officially finished my xmas shopping, but as usual, i have now decided it really doesnt look like much & want to get just a few more bits for dd's. thinking of a movie night hamper forr dd (12), can anyone suggest any non-xmas cheap dvds, shes got all twilight, harry potter etc, i would like something that maybe is based around a similar aged girl with similar "growing up" issues, but dont know if such things exsist. still deciding what theme hamper to do dd (5)...

Hi, I have a 11 year old daughter so have the same problem finding stuff that suits her age etc, like you she as all the Harry potter books and DVDs and twilight etc, A film she would love as my daughter did, we watched it not so long back together just me and her and it was so sweet is a film with Colin firth called 'what a girl wants.' She is a teenager with normal pre teen issues goes to London to find her dad and then finds the purpose of true friendship and relationships etc. it's such a lovely film and my daughter wanted me to buy it for her for christmas, it's not a new film so you should get it on amazon, quite reasonable. I really enjoyed it. It's had the basic concept that we all make mistakes, we may hurt people sometimes in life that we really never meant too, we lose people but we learn and while we move on we learn and grow, it's about consequences and putting things right. It's really sweet x

    Various:
    What A Girl Wants.
    Crazy Beautiful [lovely film].
    Bring It On
    13 Going On 30
    Clueless
    Save The Last Dance
    The Perfect Man

    Some 80s gems:
    Pretty In Pink
    Breakfast Club
    Sixteen Candles
    Footloose

You could definitely put together a few lovely teen films for her to enjoy. :)

Missed this while I was writing my post, the film I suggested is on your list. Some fab ones there, it's giving me some ideas now for some extra DVDs for my daughter x

    I've been Money Tipped!
I agree, she wants to be watching the stuff we watch (true blood - definate no no, vampire diaries - dad says yes but im still not sure) and the stuff i want her to be watching (cinderella, dora etc lol) well, you can imagine her response!

Tell her she can watch True Blood but only while you're both watching it with her and then see how she responds! ;)

It's been a long time but I can still remember that awkward feeling when watching telly with parents and the characters on screen start snogging and getting fruity (oh the shame!) Obviously it was only very tame stuff but at the time it was sooooo embarrassing!

I told one of dds friends to take her coat off the other day. She said she was ok, and dd pops up with
' Oh take it off before she starts going on about appreciating it outside. I don't need to hear it again !':rotfl::rotfl

Haha that's brilliant!!! At least you know that your daughter does listen to you and take notice of your (very sensible, if I may say so!) advice. Drum it into them - it's character building :D

i get embarresed watching true blood (but think thats just cos dh knows ive got a thing for Eric lol) i have promised her that as soon as she leaves home she can take my box set with her!! think i might give in and let her watch an episode of vampire diaries with me, if she reacts sensibly & enjoys it i might include season 1 (mine) in her hamper!

im thinking a trip to wilkos as im decided on a baking hamper for youngest dd, im going to use a large plastic mixing bowl as the actual hamper!

Hi Pinknfluffy – plenty of good dvd suggestion. Here are some of the things that I have got for my friends movie hamper – which bulks up the hamper at very little cost are – butterkist toffee popcorn from poundland (6 packs for a £1), Cherry coke 3 for £1 and tons of sweets (malteasers, maoam), Sainsbury had packets of eclairs for half price £0.74 and I think there are tons of offers for crisp around.

Also for baking hamper – I would do the same and get the baking bowl as the hamper base. Waitrose has Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookie mix as well as the Betty Crocker red velvet cake (I love red velvet) mix on offer at the moment. However looking for inspiration for a chocolate hamper I came across the ‘homemade mixes in a jar’ concept which I think I will add to the hamper. Maybe you can make 1 or 2 homemade cookie/ cake / pizza mixes to start your dd off on her baking adventure. And then get her stuff to do her own. See these for inspiration which I guess you can easily adapt. The first one is for christmas muffin in a jar.

Also someone gave my LO an usborne activites fairy cooking which is 90% baking which we have not yet started using but you could check it out??

Good luck ( I like food so can go on and on and on…..)

They also had some santa and snowmen with dangly legs (to sit on the mantle) but I can't find them online. They were a bargain compared to Lakelands - which I adore (and look much better quality).
Like this one - sooo want this but there is no way I can justify £24 for the pair (santa and reindeer)
