  • I went to see the coca cola truck last year when it came to Bluewater shopping centre. At the end of the day it is only a truck lit up with lights but it made it seem Christmassy just to see it.

oooh! I'll be working by the time we hit July...but I'll definitely tune in to QVC in the evenings! I know all the twinkly things they'll have on there will get me in the Christmassy mood! :)

Big big congratulations Alja:) clever old you I knew you'd do it.

Loving the photos getting me in the mood. Kay I don't know what to suggest, two christmas sounds great but would it work in reality. Think I'd do Christmas dinner etc crackers little pressies etc before you go when you'll all be together and then make the most of your Cornish Christmas maybe do a panto make it special but a bit different. Then you've all had special family time together then make the most of your Scottish Christmas (through gritted teeth) you're gonna have to for the sake of your DH and littlies. Make sure he knows is not a new tradition and you'll be back home for Christmas 2013!!!

Hi everyone, hope its okay if I joint this thread :)

I love christmas, everything about it, like you all do! But this christmas is going to be a bit different as both my parents are having major operations , my dad is having part of his brain removed to try cure his epilepsy, and my mum is having a jaw replacement surgery.

As you can imagine, things are going to be a bit hectic, and I can imagine I will be doing a lot of the christmassy stuff which I don't mind, but I'm thinking what to get them as gifts, I'm a bit stuck as i want to get them something useful, or really nice, but how much they would be able to appreciate it I don't know.

Basically I just want to put a lot of thought and effort into their gifts that doesn't break my student account, as they will deserve every bit of good will that comes their way. I will be grateful for any suggestions :) p.s I live at home.

Megan that is a tricky one. Maybe it will become a bit clearer close to the time, but if they are both recuperating perhaps put together a hamper of things which might be nice for that purpose? Snacks, hot chocolate, crossword/puzzle books etc?

Thank you for the heads up on Stuffing and Sausages etc. I have read on the Internet that the christmas food brochure comes out around 10th October (whoo hooo - only 3 and 1/2 months :) )

Do you normally order and collect close to Christmas? Also have you tried the Legs of Ham? Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a big leg of ham to go alongside the turkey and nibble through post Xmas day!!

hiya! I did order the turkey crown one year but found it easier just to buy one off the shelf the following year, as they come in last week in November, so I just go in now when they are 20% off and buy one to freeze, but as there are 4 of us (2 adults adn 2 teens) we dont need a big turkey, the crown lasts for Christmas day and also another roast a couple of days later, but if you need a big turkey rather than a crown I would recommend ordering and collecting.

Ive had the leg of ham once, it was delicious, really lovely quality and full of flavour, the only reason I dont get them now is lack of fridge space, I tend to buy packs of their different hams instead, as I find them easier to store with 2 small fridges :)

love it when the food brochure comes out, am usually found sat in my car outside school in an afternoon with my head buried in it!

Im really lucky that I work from home, which means I can nip into town in December at less busy times or straight after dropping the kids at school, so I can browse a bit and it isnt too crowded, remember one year when my eldest was toddler in pushchair some old woman in M&S hitting her with her basket while she shoved everyone out the way for a turkey, I was NOT happy!
