Great website, but can't help but think about how uncomfortable this sofa must be :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl: It does look it doesn't it!

Thanks for the cheap DVD website link too - will be having a look soon to top up the collection :D

My husband has just realised that his brother has not sent our daughter a birthday or a Christmas gift since her first Christmas and has decided to cut our nephews off.

I've already bought their gifts but am more than happy to ebay them :money: Especially since those two boys have a €100 budget between them.

Edit: this brother has also not once acknowledged the gifts we have sent his kids for the last three years, his kids have not said thank you and the brother himself has not bothered to contact my husband even when I let him know that the doctors had said there was an 85% chance he would die within 48 hours. Thankfully he didn't, but the brother decided not to bother even calling. So I think we have tried long enough to maintain a relationship and will not be bothering from now on.

It's hard isn't it :( A close relatives inlaws (who we do buy for as she has a young daughter) are the same. We're not buying for a thank you/present back - but we don't even get a Christmas card.

I have a Gt Aunt who had no children, so buys all of our children Christmas gifts. It must be well over 40 kids by now .

When I took our gifts to her up last Christmas, I asked for some birth dates for the family tree. Out came a long list of people, but some had little crosses next to them and some were crossed out. Knowing that these cousins were not dead I asked why they had a line though their name and what the crosses were for.

'Oh that's my 3 strike rule. If you they don't send me a card for 3 birthdays or Christmas' they get crossed off, and I don't send them anything. '

Does anyone save with the Post Office Christmas Club?
I'm itching to get my hands on the money ive put aside, gotta wait til Nov 1st though so lots of browsing at the moment for me :(
I've had my date for a section moved forward (baby is transvesre and back to back and i'm in absolute agony so the consultant has agreed to do it at 38 weeks) so i'm busy gearing up for that, i've given myself a 2 week grace of not doing much but come November 1st i'm going to be like a cat on a hot tin roof, i've got lists for everything and i'm hoping to have everything bought and in the house by mid Nov, then everything wrapped and written out by the end so i can really just chill (with 4 kids, 14, 6, 15mth and 10wks lol) and enjoy all the build up............... probably nothing i've planned will work out that way but here's hoping :)
    Skint, but happy (ish):p

Chicky - fancy seeing you here. Not alot cheaper but Amazon have the Little Tikes engines at £53.99. If I see any cheaper on my travels I will let you know.

To everyone else, I suppose I should come out from lurking. Have only dipped in and out of the forum of late.

Sorted for most people except my Dad who is nearly 80, is on his own, doesn't drink or smoke and had no hobbies. Thinking of a magazine subscription but have done this the last few years.

Any ideas for a stroppy nearly 14 year old boy gratefully received. Has an xbox, isn't into designer clothes (thankfully), isn't into football. The only thing I can think of are Turtlebeach Headphones!! Christmas Stocking is proving a real problem.

Apologies if I shouldn't be asking questions like this, don't want to offend anyone.

Will read back now over the last few pages.

welcome! adn we are more than happy to help with any kinds of suggestions for gifts!

for your Dad, how about some old movies on DVD if he has a player? or are there any box sets of sports or subjects he may like - or have liked in the past and may like to revisit?

for 14 yo, hmm .. does he have stuff like TV shows he likes? may be worth a look for merchandise? how about a calendar of some sort, any movies on DVD he might like or box sets? usually find a look on Amazon Marketplace useful. Cinema tickets? If hes into music how about Itune gift card perhaps.

Otherwise I find that Hawkins Bazaar is fab for boys and hubbies, brothers in law etc - they have loads of great retro stuff and fun gadgets and games, they have sales on all the time - so much hilarious stuff, I got some books reduced heavily in there the other week, stuff like science questions 'Do Polar Bears get Lonely?' etc, theres on which is 'The Blokes Book of Bloody Scary Stuff' and also one of the funniest adverts, reduced down to £1-2. Well worth a look on their website for inspiration! HTH x

Really pleased today, as i picked up the xbox i got for my son! Thats his main present down now, just a few stocking fillers and he is done.

I am now on the hunt for a laptop for my younger son. The company that refurbish them have a page on FB, so i am just off there to have a look.

I really really feel for you, sometimes you do all the trying and then suddenly one day you realise 'hang on a minute'! if it's all one sided and you feel taken advantage of and treated badly you have to do what is right for you and yours - I've had some similar experiences with family and 'friends' and although it does make you feel sad, I find it's better to focus on those who do value you and leave the others behind :(
  • If you want I could pick it up for you and post it and you can reimburse me with PayPal :)

thank you so much, that's so kind of you! I wouldnt want to put you out and make you extra work though. I've decided to be really good and not buy anything else for now, but I really appreciate your kind offer! xxx:j
  • littlemisschatabox and msgigglewick - sorry to hear about your broken appliances! These things never happen at a good time do they?!

Always after a bargain - you're homecoming celebration sounds wonderful, very thoughtful and i'm sure it will be just what your husband will love to come home to! Then when he's back you can fully immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit - i'm happy for you. :T

I would also like to offer my condolences to the losses some of you have suffered, it is the most awful time but you are showing admirable strength. As others have said before me don't worry about venting on here, we are all here to help and hopefully get you through it a bit easier. :grouphug:
dont know if its any help but we have a freestanding table top oven, they are about £25-50 (depending on make) and you can get them in Argos or on Amazon etc, they do a great job, I cooked my Christmas dinner in it last year! you just plug them in

Ty! oven is now fixed but its left me with about £3 to last till tuesday lol ho hum... good job i have just filled the freezer up and mum only lives around the corner if i need to borrow something. A neighbours son came to the rescue and went to his first job an hour later and mended the oven... he's one of these who is rather sexist and said he'll explain whats up to the dh as i wouldn't understand :s so i just nodded and agreed and he went on his way....

Im going to spend the afternoon sewing a blanket or sleeping bag not decided yet for the elves i've made.

Hope this weather lasts! the gardens need degrassing! lol but i won't go in the shed as its full of spiders shiver so can't get the lawn mower out until my dd2 comes home at 3.. wimp aren't i!
