  • I'm off on holiday today so I won't be able to keep up with the forum this week, but I wish you all well in your Christmas planning! I'm hoping I come back and all of the Christmas stuff is in the shops! :j

Look after yourselves and I look forward to catching up when I get back! x
  • Hiya :)
Hubby's avengers came this morning :) - he also leaves me sticky notes every day on the headboard lol so I used up £2 of an amazon gift voucher to get a pack of those for his stocking and that is him now complete.
I would have liked to have got him an avengers mug/money box but his budget is exhausted (and so is mine) so maybe I will look out for one in the Jan sales and keep it for Father's day.
Apart from 2 scratch cards and 2 selection boxes I am done!

We were going to go out to Hungry Horse for Christmas lunch on Christmas eve (£15per head with a free drinks voucher) and then have a buffet Christmas day to save on cooking but people have said to me that I probably wont feel up to that especially if I go overdue so rather than waste a deposit and risk ending up with no Christmas dinner we are going to plan to stay home instead and hubby is going to cook :D we are opting for a roast beef!
Roast Beef is a real luxury for us, we have never ever cooked one at home as they are so expensive. Neither are fussed on poultry really so this will be a nice treat.
Hubby says he doesn't mind cooking and seems to have also been taken over by aliens as he has agreed to me buying in a little each fortnight with the food shopping, stuffing here, custard there and keeping in the cupboard so we have less to spend nearer the time!
He never agrees to this kind of thing  what is going on with the men folk :T
I will sit down this week and write a list of what we will need. I might cheat a bit to make life easier for him by buying in frozen roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings things like that.
We always go to M&S every Christmas and buy bucks fizz (theirs is the best) and a Christmas gingerbread man each (that totals £6!!) and then we each chose something luxurious food wise to make it up to £10 - it is a tradition. I just got a £10 m&s voucher from valued opinions which is being saved for that purpose :j :j

Does anybody else not have turkey on christmas day?
Do you have any unusual traditions?

And on a final note is it just me who can really feel the weather changing? I am convinced we are going to have a particularly harsh winter but hubby doesn't agree.
It has NEVER EVER snowed on Christmas day in my lifetime where I live (south east) i doubt it will this year either but that would so make everything perfect for me :)

Phew, finally back on track with this thread - it is going sooo fast. Sorry to hear about your loss Kaymumof3 and your upcoming op BBthree ((hugs)). And welcome to the newbies :hello:

By the way - the disney cookie tins - these are in the 99p store. Might be hard to get now as I got one back at the begining of June for my xmas eve hampers.

Thanks for the tip - have set Home Alone 2 to record - my ds has a bday party to go to :( so will have to watch it when we get back. My ds loves this film too :)

Well went to 99p store yesterday and thanks to pinterest I looked at everything in the store in a completely new light. Managed to get some polystrene balls free from freecycle the other day so got some plant pots and sticks (were actually from a wicker type garden fence thing) and starting making my uncles sweet trees for his sweet hamper and my aunts marshmellow tree for her hot choc hamper. Also got a huge pink salad bowl for my uncles box and some whisks for my aunts hamper (have filled with lindt choc). Sooo excited now; these are the first hampers (or homemade pressies) I have ever done (well except xmas eve hampers for my kids) but finding it so enjoyable!

On a different note, as my sons friends party isnt till 3pm me and the kids have been doing ait of halloween arts and crafts this morning thanks to pinterest - Im obbessed :rotfl:

Oh god I hope it does!
It snowed a bit on Christmas day here a few years ago. It didn't settle, sadly, but it was so exciting.

I don't think it snowed one solitary flake here all last winter, so the weather gods owe me big time!

I am really shocked you have had your heating on!
I am not that far away from you really (about an hour south) and we are sat here with the back door wide open :rotfl:
But I do run quite hot (except the first 12 weeks of pregnancy when I was unusually freezing constantly). The nursery (where I sleep) has not dropped below 23 degrees yet and with the back door wide open (7 metres ish away from where I am sitting with the thermometer above my head) the room is 21.5 degrees!

The evenings and early mornings have been chilly though - enough for the fleece blanket *just*.

I am one of those who will do anything to avoid putting the heating on and lining the pockets of the energy companies though and have been told on several occasions this will all change when "little spud" comes along

Ooooh I remember about 2 years ago when it snowed on Christmas eve it was one of the best Christmas eve's ever and everywhere was so beautiful! We met with my dad and his wife at this beautiful restaurant which had swans and a lake and when we left it was dark and there was this archway with ivy type on it and twinkle lights and it was so beautiful!! Everywhere was coated in a thick frost/light snow and the lake was frozen over so we fed the swans our leftovers :rotfl: it made the whole of Christmas seem so magical. I think it was the first time I have ever had snow so near to Christmas.

    SO EXCITED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Wow, that sounds beautiful!

I was at the London Eye a couple of years back when it suddenly started snowing. Within 5 minutes everything was covered in snow, and we couldn't even see Big Ben across the river. It was soooo magical and unexpected, it hardly ever snows properly in London.

    We need snowww!

  • Mentioning snow to people around me is like mentioning Christmas to people in June!

    I LOVE SNOW!!!!!

I know for genuine reasons for those with ill health, living in the sticks and the elderly etc snow can be big trouble but we hardly ever have any and a few years ago we had 9 inches of it and we just got Jasper our youngest dog (so would have been 3 years ago) and he had just had is jabs and been kept indoors for weeks and i didnt want to miss taking him on his first walk so we took him out despite the snow AND LOST HIM!!! ROFL! (my 3 are shih tzu's) He was already small for his age but being a small dog anyway he couldnt get above the snow and just sunk LMAO in the end i picked him up and put him in my coat whilst we finished the walk with the other 2 :D

Onriebaby after much persuasion I have agreed to do a halloween party so have been on pinterest all morning too.
Am I the only grouch who doesn't like snow LOL?! It's lovely if you don't have to go anywhere but that just doesn't happen for us, and at christmas we always have a fair bit of travelling to do so snow has the potential to ruin our plans.

Wow, thats warm! Not sure what the temps been here but Im sure its gone under 10 degrees. Only put it on for a couple of hrs late at night - maye its just me wishig the cold in so I can get the heatig on and close the curtains lol

Possesion - I ould love to have a hallowee party. Only started getting into the last couple of years, but never do much - bit of trick ad treatig and pumpkin craving. Last year was the first year we actually had decoratios eyond the pumpkin (only have a few though). Made a couple of things this morning and hoping to get a few bits after Halloweeen so hoping to uild on my collection. We are in a block of flats so never get any trick or treaters here :(

Also I have to agree with Possession - I love the snow but only to look at! Ideally for me it would only snow at night and clear up by morning as everything stops. I hate driving in it (and walking too lol) so it tends to mess up whatever plans I have. Would hate snow on Xmas day as go to my Mums - its only down the road (15 mins) but I get sooo ervous driving in the snow. Sometimes also do a couple of other stops on way home (Aunts, SIL's and FIL's) all local but snow would end up ruining my day
