I think they do various Father Christmas train ride things all over the country. Anywhere that still has a running steam train probably does it. I know there are a couple in Somerset.

Obviously might not be Polar Express themed, or necessarily as good as that one looks, but still pretty fun!

I must live somewhere completely poop because I can't find anything like that near me :( BUT after speaking to my mum today and telling her about the Polar Express train, She's decided that if she can get the time off work then she'll drive up there with me and DS and my younger brother! So I'm going to cross all my fingers and toes and hope the dates work out because I really really want to take DS :D

Kaymumof3 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I've had two deaths in my immediate family in the past year and it's always a difficult time. Hope everything work's out for you and your plans for a memorial table sound lovely.:)

I went in a pound land today, I'd worked myself up expecting loads of christmas stuff... There was one section of ugly children's wrapping paper , one lot of some sort of tinsel (I can't stand the stuff) and ... That was it!! I was really disappointed , They barely had any halloween stuff either! Which is odd at this time of year. It's quite a big one to so i expected them to be more organised.

I did manage to get DS 4 more things in the tesco toy sale though, I spent around £9 and got 4 items that should of been roughly £46. So I suppose my christmas excursion today wasn't a total loss lol.
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona

    Hi All

Things have taken a bit of a downward turn for me. I am on quite strong pain meds (and it looks like I will be having day surgery - again!) and so apologies if I can't remember names and misquote people and just have a general ramble....

Hubby has bought me a xmas book to read whilst I am laid up "Christmas Magic by Cathy Kelly". He actually went into Waterstones and told them that his wife is obsessed with xmas and could they recommend a book :rotfl:

Sorry to hear you have to have more surgery, I hope you have a swift recovery and that everyone around you looks after you well. It already sounds like you have a very thoughtful hubby so I hope you're doted on!

Christmas at the cupcake Cafe - Jenny Colgan

I'm excited as i've just read 'Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe' so this would be a perfect read for me! Thanks for the rest of the list too, I was thinking the other day i'd like to read a Christmas book. :)

Hope you feel a bit better soon, it sounds like your DH is brilliant.
for those who have ordered Rudolph Monopoly from Foyles.

Still showing as 'order being processed' so I called to check last night, they said there had been some kind of glitch and the manager had sorted it, so the item (he kept saying book lol! bless him!) was only just ordered from the USA, so will take another 5 days or so for them to get it, before it's dispatched. Just in case, like me, you wondered why no dispatch yet.

Tiny bit unimpressed that didnt get an email to let me know of the delay, not in a rush or anything but would be good to have little heads up why something not sent a week after ordering, but heyho!

Thank you for this, I have been wondering what's happening and if I'd done the right thing ordering from them. Hopefully we will all get them eventually.

  • have read a fair few of those books, I think by far the best for real Christmassy feel is Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley, I'm just reading it again for about the 15th time! its so cosy and festive, really great book, lots of Christmas cooking and decorating, getting snowed in etc.

I wouldnt recommend The Magic of Christmas by the same author though, as I found out after I started it that it's a re-issue of one of her older books with a bit tacked on the end (a page!) of Christmas, I think they were cashing in on the popularity of Twelve Days!

I've got a bit of an issue with the stroppiness of some of her characters generally tho!

Christmas at The Cupcake Cafe is on my list, think its available for pre order? also on my list is Winter Wonderland by Belinda Jones, shes one of my absolute favourite writers so it should be good if her other books are anything to go by

Jilly Cooper writes brilliant Christmas day scenes :)
