I'm not quite sure what her reaction will be but i hope she says yes as reminds me of childhood and she is amazing at baking them. very :money: for me too
I was meant to say regarding big tubs of malteasers - last year in the supermarkets they did huge tubs of them (maybe 1ltr?) and they were £5 and definitely worth the money! We ended up having one each :rotfl: may well be worth waiting until nearer the time

That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for..........but cant find yet:rotfl:Spreading a little Christmas joy all year round :santa2:0 -
So have been to the shops today and this is what I've seen which hopefully may help a few people or ideas!
Pound world - chocolate moshi monster advent calendars, moshi monster hair & body wash, moshi monster bubble bath, skittles scented candles (raspberry was particularly nice!), the collapsable bottles that were previously mentioned but with mickey mouse or hello kitty on.
B & M was complete chaos with moving shelves and putting things out but it was last week and this week was worse!! - Elizabeth Shaw chocolate mints (£1.99), card shuffler (£3.99 casino hamper?), some really nice the only way is essex beauty gift sets like nice colour nail varnishes etc I was quite impressed! Cadbury red mini machines (£5.99), cadburys choc coins (99p)
I have also started my box of goodies to put up consisting of mint match makers (£1 tesco), party rings double pack (99p b&m), chocolate hob knobs (85p b&m) and erm some mini flumps cos I love 'em(99p b&m).
I really need to also find some gold tissue paper to wrap up two gift cards but I havnt seen any as of yet. I have decided to layer my jar of gold with sweets & the gift cards be hidden between layers. The range have started to put out their xmas stuff but it was cordoned off last night. :xmastree: :snow_grinSpreading a little Christmas joy all year round :santa2:0 -

That is COOL.
hmmm a christmas food pinboard someone said...........
I just type "christmas" into the search box, or i typed "christmas craft" in - didn't realise you could search by type.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
If you need quite a few sheets of gold tissue paper, I've always found ebay to be cheaper. If you don't need many, I'm pretty sure Poundland do a pack.0

I like to think one day I will be able to do my bit and donate a sum to charity or help some others out in the ways we have been by way of thanks to those that have helped us out financially either by giving us things for the baby or food. In the meantime I just try to be as nice as I can, lend an ear or a shoulder and give my time if it's possible.
Probably something we should all try and do more - (especially at Christmas).
Things are just about starting to look up for us now (though the money situation will take a few years) all the ill health and family troubles seem to be improving and it really makes you grateful for everything.
A friend came to our house and was shocked because we don't have an extra chair and I have 2 shelves empty on my bookcase, no rugs or nik naks and according to her my house echoes and she wanted to know where all of our "stuff" was. I explained we had to sell it and she just had no comprehension of where I was coming from.
When people around you are suffering with their health and you might lose them a chair or a book or a dvd mean nothing.
Some kind people who are complete strangers helping you when you want to do the best for your baby - mean everything!
You know what, your words have been playing on my mind all morning. I'm feeling really humbled and pretty darn stupid that I was even considering those ridiculous calendars.
So guess what, I have donated £50 of my facebay money to charity (ms society as its close to home) and I will buy them a cheap chocolate one each and teach them to be grateful for what they have. All thanks to you.
I was trying to keep up with the Jones' and that's not me.
So truly, thank you, for making me see sense and helping a charity in the process.
Love this site!

My3girls, what a lovely thing to do. I agree, it's inspiring and does make you count your blessings. DH is out of work so we are struggling but we're doing OK - some of the stories on the Old Style boards show people really at the end of their tether, and unfortunately the cuts coming in are sure to push more people into that category.
that doesn't mean we can't enjoy christmas - what better to cheer us all up after all - but it's definitely going to be quite a frugal christmas here. Wonder what comes up on pinterest if I search frugal christmas? Might go look!0 -
I've just bought the sweeties for our advent calendar - each day has a little bag of Haribo Christmas sweets or a chocolate Santa plus an activity we can do. December 1st we'll see Santa, for instance, and on the 23rd we always make up little bags of stuff (handwarmers/gloves, toothbrush/paste, couple of €, sandwich, some chocolate) and give them to the homeless people we see in town. I like to have a little stash of dogfood handy too, if it doesn't all get used we donate it to a shelter.
My grandmother's birthday was Christmas Eve, and she was such a gloriously kind woman that it is important to me to do something for her memory. I miss her.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

One idea, which is similar to giving to charity is lend with care. You lend to people in the developing world and help them develop the business. You are investing in their future and, as it's a loan, you get the money back, which you can withdraw or re-invest. I am saving for my husband's 60th birthday in 2014 and invest a little each month.

Hi, pretty new here but getting v excited about Christmas & all the preparations :j.
Just though I'd post in case there are any MSE peeps in & around the North East. The Weardale railway are having the Polar Express train over the Christmas period. It looks absolutely gorgeous & it's the first time it's been in the UK. If anyone is booking it, don't try in an iPad because it fibs & tells you there's no availability. I can't wait :j
I'm new so can't post link but it's -
W w w. Weardale railway. Com / polar _ express
Don't know if someone can link this properly & hope it's ok to post!
Hope this helps someone! It's the type of thing I'm usually oblivious to until after the event or until its sold out.0
