  • My mother was sneaky, she went to M&S in the new year and bought their christmas tree advent, it is a 3d christmas tree with 24 little draws in, and has been using it for the last 6 years, putting some chocolate coins in, or some money, anyway I have two sistgers and we always had to share the advent.

So instead of spending 25. on the tree, she got it for 5. and has not bought an advent calander since, she reckons she saves about 15. each year beacuse there is five in the family and my dads the biggest kid in the house !!!!!

This year I am making chocolate truffles in the shapes of christmas trees, snowmen and stockings, and putting them in a chocolate 3d sleigh, everyone loves chocolate and its homemade. Who wouldn't want to open that christmas morning. Besides with the brandy truffles you can get started early !!!

Does everyone get an advent calendar each for their kids then?

When I was younger we always shared an advent calendar between us and took turns opening a window. It was more exciting then, when it was your turn.

I thought that was normal. Evidently not! (I shall have words with my Mum! She owes me 20 advent calendars to myself.) ;)

Of course last year I had a Lego one and a traditional one (no chocolate) to myself, and I'm in my thirties. I should probably be embarrassed...

Thinking of having a north pole breakfast for when the elf arrives - more the napkins and plates and the way the table is laid than the content of the breakfast to be honest ...

I LOVE the sound of this!! :T I don't have children yet but I might still do a North Pole breakfast for me and my OH. :p
I get one from myself and one for my daughter from Lidls as the chocolate is bigger and thicker :p
I think I still have last years empty tray to make
    xmas shaped chocs!

I have kept my empty tray too, every year I have a dinner party for my friends so i'm going to use the tray to make chocolate mints for the end of the meal - all in Christmas shapes! :T

Just a convo starter but what does everyone eat on christmas day? Breakfast, xmas dinner....

It's changed a bit for me now as we stay one year at my parents then one year at OH's, but i'll tell you at my parents as that's where we're staying this year. In the last few years i've started making smoked salmon on toast with scrambled/poached egg for breakfast and that goes down well. We don't have a starter, but early afternoon we have turkey/chicken with all the trimmings and my mum makes me a strawberry trifle every year as I don't like Christmas pudding. We then usually have something else like profiteroles. In the evening we usually have a big ham with some salad and sausage rolls etc. In the few days leading up to Christmas and Christmas itself my mum has lots of bowls around the living room with chocolates, peanuts ans crisps in - it's so easy to over-indulge!! When I host Christmas i'd like to start introducing Bucks Fizz with the breakfast! :D I'm not a big drinker but I like the idea of having something sparkly in the morning.

As my OH and I have just bought a house and we have more room I was considering offering to host Christmas, but my borther is a carer and he may be working over Christmas so I don't want him to be left on his own! My family live around 80 miles away by the way otherwise it wouldn't be a problem!

I think both M&S and Next do a wooden one

mine is the one in the Disney Store (its online again this year £12) it is the chest of drawers type and really lovely, very sturdy too - it isn't wood though, its like very solid cardboard, if that is any help?

    Most definitely agree!!
Everything is always better after a cup of tea

omg HOW gorgeous??!! my only beef with Disney is that you pay such a high p+p, it's nearly as much as the item! if you just want one decoration or something it makes it so expensive - but worth it if you have other people you can club together with for order, or order a lot of stuf! this is just so sweet, I want one!!!
  • Most definitely agree!!

when you've seen a fair bit of the bad side of humanity you tend to start thinking everyone is like that - then somebody does something so kind and thoughtful and you realise that really there is so much good in the world and so many lovely kind people, far more than the tiny percentage of people who arent so good :o

Definitely before Christmas (maybe october?) Disney do a free P&P offer for a week or so. If you sign up to get emails they should send you the offer. I agree, the p&p is silly.
