Re advent calendar could you buy one and split the toys between the 3 of them so 3/24 toy means there are 8 toys each they you could give them a moshi each weekend on lead up and the others on the final days leading up to Christmas? My son instead into moshis do not sure if this will work but could justify the cost if it was split between all 3?

Sirmonk, you could get a collection of leaflets from free and paid attractions within travel distance from you .................mischievous a couple of noisy things to go home with them ;)

Just had to say I LOVE this idea.
Perhaps put bowling/ play centre vouchers in it?

I also liked the idea of doing their bedroom out.

The Chuggington train sets look fab - I want the wooden safari one but when i had a quick look could only find it in America :(

DD1 has found out there is a moshi monsters advent calendar where they have 'twistmas' and winter wonderland moshlings... its £25!!!!!

We did buy DS1 (he'll be 4) the lego one this year as i spent over £20 making my own last year :rotfl:
Just an idea but if they share couldn't you get 1 + 1 chocolate one + 1 traditional picture one. Then they take turns opening each?
    So
1st December: DD1 opens MM, DD2 opens choc, DD3 traditional
2nd December: DD2 opens MM, DD3 opens choc, DD1 traditional
    etc

I certainly wouldn't buy 1 MM one each.
Hiya, can I join your merry little bunch. I have scanned through the posts and have already got lots of ideas for my wee family. I love Christmas especially buying all the wee stocking fillers and cosy nights in with a box of chocs. My task this week is to find a soft toy elf so I can start the elf tradition with my boys who are 15 months and 4. x

    hello
I got my 2 (will be 20month and 4) Ben Elf on offer in Boots. linky. I couldn't find any other soft elves that I liked, Elf on the shelf is far too small. Plus he talks :D
My husband loves the snowman film, i think i must be the only person in the world that finds it really boring :rotfl:
    I can't STAND it.
Raymond Brigg's Father Christmas on ghe other hand. That's a MUST see every year and has been for me since it was released.
Ohh and the Brave Little Toaster (can you get that on DVD?)

The Christmas grinches in my office have banned me from talking about Christmas till after Halloween so I thought I'd come out of lurkdom and chat with you all instead!

Every year I do an edible gift as an extra gift, this year I'm thinking of doing coconut ice, last year poundland had some fab glass jars, sort of like Kilner jars, but obviously only £1 really hoping they get them in again this year!

LOL todays work conversation consisted of how it's started to get dark and 6pm and getting cold. So i casually dropped in it was just over 100 days until christmas................I think if they could have thrown something at me that would have done.
I was told to shut up and not mention it again.:lipsrseal

Thanks for the heads up re: poundland and Kilner Jars. Think I'm going to do my dad a retro sweetie/ snack hamper and these would be perfect. either that or old fashioned sweet shop paper bags (hmmmm .... opens ebay)

Opee92 - thanks for the info re the white malteasers. will have to get some of those.
Also just discovered Vice Versa's are back (for anyone who remembers them) so on the look for them at a good price too. (for anyone who doesn't remember them they are white choc shells with milk choc inners and vice versa. Vice-Versa.jpg

Just a convo starter but what does everyone eat on christmas day? Breakfast, xmas dinner....

    Breakfast:
Last Year: Croissants to eat while opening stockings

Bacon sandwiches a bit later on.

HOWEVER - no-one ate the croissants - hubby said he "forgot about them" so not sure I'll bother this year.
I like the idea of christmas muffins - might make a few batches of different muffins (lemon, chocolate, fruit, plain, choc chip) and have them out to snack on.

    Dinner:

Until last year this was Gammon, Egg and chips :rotfl:as I couldn't cook to save my life.
Then I became a (not quite) domestic goddess when i was pregnant with DS2. so now its:
chicken, gammon, roast potatoes, mash potato, veg, yorkie puds.

No one eats fruit cake so it's choccy something or other for pudding.
I fancy a woodland strudel and custard or cream this year I think so will get one of them too.

    Tea

nibbles and leftovers. - mini sausages, mini pizzas, mini sausage rolls, chicken goujons, pringles, ham, cheese, cream crackers, water biscuits, bread (probably home made rolls) whatever takes my fancy really.

If I recall corectly the cold carrots were the first thing my boys polished off last year. :rotfl:

It's just us all day so it's really laid back and after snacking most of the day on chocolate if it gets eaten it does if not we have it on the go all of boxing day.

DS1 enjoyed his party tea breakfast last year :D
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

I am with you on the SPD pain, I am waiting for my Physio appointment to come through it is just getting worse and worse and I am in total agony (and exhausted because I can't sleep!)

I am stressing a bit now about the baby because although I have the majority of stuff and the cot up and all of that i keep reading conflicting advice on bottle feeding, dont know if i need to get a bottle warmer, need a couple of bits to buy still and need money for the hospital car park, petrol, credit for hubbys phone etc etc etc and i feel like i am running out of time.

not to mention the fact that the spd has completely hindered any housework/cooking i wanted to do :( *woe is me* lol

if you go back a couple of pages, someone helpfully posted a link to all the hampers and I am 99.9% certain there is a link to casino hampers which should help get you started.

Thank you, I have seen that thread before but hadn't noticed a casino one- will go and have a better look!:)
Hugs (carefully) to all with SPD pain- this has brought back lots of memories of bracing myself to turn over in bed without twisting.

quality teaching them how to play poker lol!

We were married in vegas and had a reception when we came home for all our lovely friends who couldn't come with us - and we had a casino theme - it was very fun!

I've seen casino chip chocolate coins in tesco.

What about an electronic card shuffler?

    obv packs of cards..

    wee strategy guide book?

    themed keyring?

    favourite snack & drink?

voucher for online poker (if she plays!)

MIL doesn't really go to casinos apart from if they go on a cruise. She loves to play cards, but mostly Bridge with her friends. I thought it would be fun for her to set up a casino night with the boys if they stay over.
I will keep a look out when in Tesco, as they seem really expensive online. Love the card shuffler idea.:T

    Christmas Nightmare..........................

DD1 has found out there is a moshi monsters advent calendar where they have 'twistmas' and winter wonderland moshlings... its £25!!!!!

She said she will forfeit christmas presents to get it, but the other 2 love moshi's also so i couldn't get her one without the others and i'm damned if i'm spending £75 on advent calendars:eek:

    what do i do?!

My 3 know that we only get one 'big' advent calendar (Lego or playmobil) and when it's not their turn they open a traditional one. Fingers crossed you can find a good offer on one nearer the time.:)

Hello, to everyone joining :D its lovely to hear about everyone's plans.

Also I am now STARVING- i need a roast dinner with all the trimmings. :rotfl: And some white Maltezers for desert please.
    * Ebay- 1 Bag a Day *
  • I'm not looking forward to when my daughter wants expensive things lol. All she really wants this christmas is .... stickers ! :D

I don't like the snowman either, it's dated and a bit sad. I think the Home Alone movies might be my favs!
    1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
    10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
    50p: Christmas presents £3.50
    £2: holidays £2.00
  • I love vice versas, they are yummy! The sharing bags are £1 in Morris*ns at the moment (all Nestl! sweeties are!) if that's any help? :D

Does everyone get an advent calendar each for their kids then?

When I was younger we always shared an advent calendar between us and took turns opening a window. It was more exciting then, when it was your turn.

I thought that was normal. Evidently not! (I shall have words with my Mum! She owes me 20 advent calendars to myself.) ;)

Of course last year I had a Lego one and a traditional one (no chocolate) to myself, and I'm in my thirties. I should probably be embarrassed...
