:rotfl::T I have just sent my mum a text saying im in too much pain and too busy so i am putting in my order with her to make my christmas cake, mince pies and apple pies this year.
I'm not quite sure what her reaction will be but i hope she says yes as reminds me of childhood and she is amazing at baking them. very :money: for me too :p

I was meant to say regarding big tubs of malteasers - last year in the supermarkets they did huge tubs of them (maybe 1ltr?) and they were £5 and definitely worth the money! We ended up having one each :rotfl: may well be worth waiting until nearer the time

    found this ^^^^^

    Edit: Mum said yes :D

    Hello new christmas folk!

I keep finding presents Ive hid around the house, Ive got them stashed everywhere...going back to the WILKINSONS catalogue thing...Ive just checked and its the autumn winter home one...boooo I was all excited. But Im sure the other one will be out soon after.

Just a convo starter but what does everyone eat on christmas day? Breakfast, xmas dinner....

For breakfast we normally have cinnamon buns and naughty pastries with coffee and fresh orange juice etc. DS is normally to excited to eat or is half way through his selection box.

For dinner (which is normally about 3-4ish) we have turkey, christmas ham, roast potatoes, maple roasted carrots and parsnips and sprouts. Last year we had chocolate cake but this year OH is making some type of cheesecake. We never have a started as no one likes the same thing eg I like soup,,,my OH does, he likes prawns, DS doesnt lol

In the evening we just tend to rumage throught the xmas cupboard and have mince pies, crisps nuts and the usual bits and pieces.

What does everyone drink? Ive been looking around and seeing if there are any early bargains. The usual for us is Bucks fizz, a bottle of cava and a bottle of wine. My mam has here alcoholic gingerbear and my OH is a cider drinker.

    Sorry Im rabbiting on tonight.

Sirmonk, you could get a collection of leaflets from free and paid attractions within travel distance from you and fill a stocking with them and some written/printed suggestions for things to do together - so when your kids come and see you, they can choose one and go from there there. If each stocking has 14 envelopes in they can take turns choosing something from their stocking and you'll be covered past next Christmas.

That and some fun stuff just for your house - maybe board games (Candyland is good for little ones) or stuff that doesn't cost a lot but is amazing for children - hugest box you can find stuffed with balloons, the fixings for an amazing blanket fort, stuff like that - and if you're feeling mischievous a couple of noisy things to go home with them ;)

    oooh sounds soo good!

for breakfast we have..... chocolate! lol.
We always have loads of people visiting throughout the day.night (over 60!!!) so for breakfast i usually do bacon/sausage rolls, selection of fruits and tea/coffee - nothing fancy! Have thought about doing salmon and champagne but feel it would be a waste.

our lunch is the same time as yours and we have starters (soup, prawn cocktail or melon with cinnamon) then main is turkey, roasted ham, beef joint, pigs in blankets, yorkshire pudding, huuge roasted veg selection, meatloaf, nut roast, mash, baby and roast potatoes, stuffing, diff gravy's - and probably more ive forgotten lol.

Pudding this year is a huge novelty xmas cake i'm getting a lovely lady to make for me :-) plus proffiteroles, gateau, dont do xmas pudding.

We have a big selection of nuts, mince pies, crisps, chocolates thorughout the day and at night i put a spread on with leftovers from lunch and a few extras like cocktail sausages, rolls, fillers, breadsticks, dips etc while we have our big karaoke party.

Oh im so hungry and can't wait :rotfl:

throughout the day is various alcoholic beverages :D

If you think they will love it then i would buy it for them to open at yours and then let them decide whether they want to take it with them or leave it at yours. You will need toys to keep at your house for them i know, but its hard for kids that age to understand.

love the idea for a box of balloons!

You can always get them bath toys & character wash stuff to keep at yours, do they have a bedroom at your house? If so you could do their room up, nothing fancy but character duvet covers, curtains, wee rug, wall stickers so its a surprise for them and not something they can take with them lol.

  • Hiya guys,
This thread is going sooooo fast now - literally have just had to read about 10 pages! So its going to be a long post coming up as I cover all the bits I want to comment on since my last post :D

Welcome to all the newbies! Loving the fact that we got a mentin in the newsletter :T :T

Loving all the Xmas movies - I too like a couple of you have said loved the Santa Claus ovie (Dudley Moore) growing up but cant sit through it now. Snowman - someone said its the mst boring thing ever; I have to agree but again loved it when I was growing; my kids love it now. Polar Express - never properly watched this; after hearing great things about it, it was on the telly last year but didnt really get into and gave up after about 30 mins - think its the way its made (animations iuswim) that I dont like. A few suggestions that were said I am going to try and get such as Noel and the Paws movies. Do have a dvd each for my kids hampers already but might get the paws double pack and they can have one each too. The link someone put up for that is £5 for the double pack but Im sure I saw it on grabbit or maybe on here for £3 odd for it - anyone remember?

Re who buys pressies - well until the year before last Santa brought everything for the kids that they got on Xmas morn(xmas eve hampers are from Mrs Claus though). We always had pressies from family under the tree and they understood that family get eachother pressies as well as Santa and knew that I brought for their cousins etc (they never questioned why didnt I get for them even though I was really frightened they would :rotfl: ). Anyhow, a few years ago my eldest wanted something or another and when I said I dont think that Santa can get those, the reply was 'well he makes everything so why not?' and I said ' the ........ elf is sick and only he can make that particular toy so unfortunately Santa wont be able to give any children them this year' . That worked until his friends got the particular toy and then I said that their parents had helped out Santa abit and he said why didnt I help Santa by getting it for him. I then decided that he needed to understand abit for how much effort Mummy and Daddy put into Xmas (and finally get abut of credit) as felt his attitude was verging on ungrateful (he just didnt have a clue! Anyway now they still get pressies from family etc and Santa only gets their stockings and one main present - Mummy and Daddy get everything else.

Also pages back someone (think your pinterest name is QueenBee) put the sweet/ choc sledge - I love it!! Thank you sooo much - so doing this! It also opened me up to the world of pinterest to which I am heavily addicted! QueenBee, you may not it nut you are now following me :rotfl:ironic as you introduced to pinterest. Got sooo much brillaint ideas for Xmas, Halloween , general tips and my wedding (oh hasnt even proposed yet but you can never be too oraganised :rotfl: saying that I hoping its this Xmas - he knows that I want to be proposed to on Xmas eve or morn and each year I pray this is the year :rotfl:).

Also decided on my aunt and uncles pressies thanks to pinterest. Im doing my aunt an hot choc hamper and my uncle a sweet hamper. So far Im thinking spoon dipped in choc (search on pinterest), choc sledge, jar of hot choc (white/ black layers of hot choc, milk powder, choc drops and sugar and marshmellows at top in old style jar), whpped cream, choc powder pot, whisk, marshmellows, couple of lindt chocs and cant remember what else. Going to be buyin the victorian jars someone put up on here ages ago to make hot choc in jar and also going to fill a couple for uncles sweet hamper. Also going to get him a scoop, make some candy kebabs (pinterest), mini sweet trees and cant remember what else (spreadsheet is on pc - on laptop at min). Really excited about making these.

Got a few bargains in the tesco sale and a few from the entertainer so dong well at the moment. Only have 7 people left to get for (2 are getting the hampers mentione) and am about half way through my kids stockings and Xmas eve hampers. Halway through my sons pressies and have a couple for my daughetr now :T Really getting into it now

Re teh dilemma SirMonk gave, I have no real clue but the suggestion of days out sounds fair.

Think thats all for now xx
  • Sorry for the million and one spellings mistakes snd typos and there is even a few missed words etc - Hope you all understand what I was saying; cant be bothered to fix it all - theres too many lol.

Christmas breakfast ... when I still lived with my parents I instituted a tradition of eggs benedict with smoked salmon instead of bacon for Christmas breakfast, they still do that now but I wanted a new tradition for my grown-up married house.

Still haven't decided on what that is :o last year I made Nigella's Christmas muffins and they were crap, some sort of fail on baking powder/bicarb I think. If I can find out of season strawberries for my little girl I think she'd like those with yoghurt and some nice bread toasted with HM jam, then DH and I can have pate on nice bread.

Christmas meal plan is one of the tasks I have upcoming. My favourite meal plan of the year.
