I sorted my christmas cupboard out today as i needed to make space for the body shop sets i bought in the glitch last week. I updated my christmas book and was suprised at how well i am doing! Ive got mums main present, a radley bag and purse which was half price in debehams with an extra 10% off - also got a body shop set that should be £25 but worked out at £4 with the glitch and also got a photo frame.

Got my dads after and my friend slippers in the debehams sale - £4.50 from £15 and some socks from primark which were only £1.99. Got my sister a hello kitty stationery set, a me to you frame and a few stocking fillers but still need to find more but theres plenty of time yet
    :)
  • Opee92 congratulations on your pregnancy! That's great news!

Chirpychick it's more than ok to have a rant, everyone needs one now and again. I agree with Damzel, you just worry about yourself now. If you can't afford much for Christmas, just remember that you will be with your husband and new miracle baby and that in itself will feel so special to you that a lot of things you worry about won't really matter. I don't know what you eat, but you could stock up on a few things now such as the big tubs of chocolates like Heroes, Celebrations etc (they are starting to come into the supermarkets for £5), crisps/pringles, peanuts, packets such as bread sauce if you eat it, After Eights,.......oh dear now i'm going blank! Will have to think of some more. :)

It doesn't sound selfish at all! It sounds like the complete opposite if anything :)
You should put yourself and your husband first, especially at this special time in your lives. People will understand that you have a baby coming and will have a newborn and the amount of extra money that can take up! If anyone doesn't then they wouldn't be worth bothering with as far as im concerned, If i was in the same position i'd be giving everyone a token gift such a pot of gold etc and making sure my first xmas as a family with a new baby (Im presuming she/he is due before then?) was perfect and i think thats what you should do to.
Try not to worry and stress. Just make sure you're well taken care of. A happy mum makes a happy baby :)

totally agree! you are thinking of everyone else, take good care of yourself, hubby and bump - hopefully you can save some of your survey earnings for a supermarket gift card so you will have a lovely Chrsitmas day too :) xx

chirpychick. TBH apart from the presents (and boxes of choccies and tree and crackers) our Christmas may as well be a normal Sunday.
We will probably have chicken (tho I may splash out and buy Mr A's own brand instead of value), roast tatas etc. in fact until DS2 was born last year christmas dinner was Gammon, egg and chips as I didn't learn to cook until my chicken cravings in pregnancy.
No one eats sprouts or parsnips in our house.

    I don't do 'starters'.

perhaps a choccy yule log for desert (no one eats christmas cake or christmas pudding or mince pies).

I do family pressies on as much of a budget as I can. As much as I want to make handmade gifty stuff this year I can't help but think I need to buy more "thought about" presents.

I think I mentioned earlier we don't see family at all over christmas (we're lucky if they visit us in december or january as we are about 200 miles away (and us with no car refuse to get a train over the festive season)

Baby won't need for much - i think we got DS1 a baby gym for christmas as he was an October baby. DS2 got a .... well I can't even remember what he got.

moral of the tale: please don't stress - we are here to help.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • tbh im sure everyone would be understanding being due so close to christmas and everything but i want to have it all done. As selfish as it sounds, the thing i think bugging me is that ive put everyone else first, everyone else's presents etc are practically brought and wrapped but it is everything for hubby and i left and i feel we are going to be sat eating a value chicken on christmas day with the candles on to save electricity whilst all the people we have brought for wont appreciate their gifts and will all be having fabulous christmas's with butchers turkeys and all the trimmings. Though we will still be happy as we will have our little miracle, i so want to make christmas nice for hubby and myself after all we have been through this year.

omg sorry for the big stress out!!!!!!! I obviously really needed a rant!!!

Chirpychick, I second what everyone else has said, people are going to understand you have a lot more important things on your plate. I know what you mean about wanting to make Christmas nice for your little family and thats what you should focus on.

Im expecting twins on 18th Nov, so I really do know how you're feeling. I am trying to buy little bits for people but Im not going overboard like I normally do. Everyone usually has a giant bag of presents each to open (all 12 of them) but they have all said not to get them anything this year due to circumstances. It wouldnt feel like Christmas without giving them something though, no matter how small.

But this is your 1st family Christmas at home with your baby and thats what matters. You may do this already, but I recommend having a look at the coupons thread and the Tesco glitches thread and getting little bits of food/drink to put away for Christmas that way. They've helped me no end in the past and will have to get back into using that thread again soon. Hope you dont think Im being forward xx

    Thank you so much everyone!
Cake4Brains - congratulations on your twins :D I think it is lovely everyone has said not to worry! I mean I would be the same and feel like I needed to do a token gift as well but it really takes off the pressure, none of my family have said that to us at all!!!
It is my Hubby's Birthday on 2nd October and that is sorted, but I do feel the poor man is getting a bit left out!
Everyone is so right though, we have to make it special for us and our little family.
I think I might ask him tonight to run through a few luxury items which he would like to have at Christmas time and start up a box.
I noticed today that Morris0ns have tins of celebrations for £6 at the moment. That is £1 more than Tesco but cheaper than the petrol over there. I know hubby likes these a lot so might get some of those in this week.
Also we live within walking distance of Morrisons and I was thinking about starting to get some saving stamps, even if it is just £1 per week as I have started shopping there to save fuel and walking there alone in the days as part of my recovery from agoraphobia.
I haven't counted but even if that's £15 it will be a help!
Everything is always better after a cup of tea
