I have had a lovely big sort out today and well i know i love Christmas but 14 boxes of decorations is a little too much even for me.I like to keep all the little things that the kids make at school and nursery,i don't like it when others get rid of decs so i take them on as well but i have gone through box by box and steadily reduced my boxes to 6 which is a little more respectable.I have kept all the things that are dear to me and have now decided that i need a new colour scheme as what i have kept does not match lol.Any suggestions.Thanks.

you can use unwanted decorations as part of the wrapping on presents - I usually have a few that I want to look extra nice & use a few baubles tied into the bow or something similar.

It's amazing how quickly you can whittle down the ornaments that way ;)
  • What a fabulous thread to have found! I love Christmas and it always depresses me when people get so grumpy about it starting too early! We put our decorations up in November - I figure to h*ll with the "bah humbug" crowd.....Christmas all year round for me!

My daughter hasn't taken her little tree down yet! She has a little black tree and it has been up in her bedroom since last December! I would like to say it makes her room look festive but unfortunately the effect is spoilt by the complete and utter mess the room is in. Council tip springs to mind!

White Satin - I think you should do a meal also - £27/8 per head on a meal and £2/3 per head on a gift, but personally I think the gifts should be a little token almost like a favour/party bag type thing, put at the place setting of each person. People are still getting a present but it is a small token gift instead.

On Saturday I went through all of the gifts and with hubby's help wrapped everything up, including his birthday presents lol. For now they are stored under the bed and in the wardrobe, there is nothing edible or soapy so should be fine.

I have a few bits left to get but 90% is from Amazon and I am waiting for my love film amazon voucher to come through and also working upto more on valued opinions and lightspeed surveys (and cash on pureprofile!) I would like to get as much "free" as possible. Though intend on having them ordered by mid September incase they go out of stock.

The rest will be stuff to pick up from Tesco nearer the time.

    Damzel-in-distress - hope you're ok?

We were talking about our baby when we were going through presents, we didn't wrap his stocking presents this year as being around 3 weeks old he isn't going to know anything but he has 4 non stocking presents which we did wrap. We said when he is old enough to understand he will be told that the stuff in the stocking is from santa but the other presents are from certain people i.e mummy and daddy, grandad, etc

My friend's little girl is 5 now and she believes that all the presents are from santa and at first it wasn't an issue but now she questions why she has to thank others if they are all from santa!

I wondered how you guys do things...

are presents in the stocking wrapped?
    what does santa bring?

Also this year we were thinking that maybe we would go out to hungry horse for 3 course christmas meal (about £30 + non alcoholic drinks for hubs and I) then do buffet type food on christmas day, we will be alone this year with our baby and neither of us fancies cooking a christmas meal but going out on christmas day is extortionate. what are people's opinions on this?

I would take £200 to £300 that way if you dont spend it you can bring it back, the water park may be free, but drinks, snacks etc can add up espically with little'un, x

    ?

ours were all wrapped; just roughly, not fancily - in a different paper to the rest of the presents as those in the stocking are what Father Christmas brings. ;)

Even though they're grown-up, my children still get a stocking with mostly the same bits n bobs as when they were little - something silly to play with, sweets, fruit, a lip salve, a new toothbrush and Christmas pyjamas (although now they're so much bigger, sometimes it's Christmas underwear instead) :D

I always wrap presents in stocking, I usually keep one type of paper for the stockings.
Santa usually brings one main present and few other bits of odds and sods, as well as the tradtitional selection box!!

When Miss Hoodie was younger was younger we did 3 Christmas dinners at the local pub, not very mse but that was when the mr t took any vouchers so we use to put the money in a tin, but the last time we went it was £200 and the meal was awful, so its been at home.

Since then done xmas dinner at home, many yrs ago, mum was working, so dad and I took advantage and went to the pub, got home he tried to cook dinner, frozen roasties, etc we were lucky we'd cooked the turkey the day before, I then took the dog to meet mum, must looked plonker 3in stelitos (sp?) the dog had to lead me, got mum had to lean on her push bike, don't remember much else from there!!

def agree buffet, as there be less pressure and u can enjoy yourselves, the idea pre xmas meal sounds great xx

When I was younger my mum and dad did the stocking from santa but there were also presents both from santa (that appeared in our sacks in our rooms) and presents from them. Mum even made sure that 'santa' presents were wrapped in different wrapping paper - and yes stocking things were individually wrapped.

When I was told 'the secret' (my sis was younger) mum and dad assured me that quantity of presents wouldn't change, they would just all be from them officially instead - she just used to split what they had bought us in half - half from santa, half from them.

We all still have a stocking - mum did mine, my sis and my dad and dad did mums - but now dad is no longer with us me and my sis have taken over mums. It's for silly little things (with the obligatory choc coins) and the game of 'who can wrap the smallest thing with the most amount of sticky tape'...
