Hi sorry its been a while since I have been on this thread. I have been struggling with my Christmas spirit so did not want to depressed you all. I am all done now apart from some Cds that I am holding out on a good price for. Hubby has been away for the last four weeks, yes even when the army sent him to Afghanistan for 6 months they decided that weren't enough and sent him away after his leave for another month. Yes the extra money is great but it has knock all wind out of my sails. By the time he comes home he would of been away 9 months out of a possible 12. Yes I know he is a soldier but sometimes I could scream with his job I really could. I been struggling the last few weeks so really did not want to come on and put a dampner on things.
All decorations are up and the kids are really excited. Our Elf's are up to mischief every night. As much as I am struggling to keep happy at the moment Its all about the kids at the moment so to see their faces all excited about it all is keeping me going. Hubby is back at the end of the week so hopefully then things can settle down and we can start to have quality family time together again and then my Christmas Excitement will come back. Also we have some days out then too.
We have a quiet Christmas this year, we plan to close those curtains for the three days and shut out the world. Watch t.v, play games and reconnect all together and forget about the horrible stressful 12 months we have had. In the New year we are staying with friends for a few days which will be lovely and I am looking forward to it. Once a few days hidden away from outside world my batteries will recharge and I will be ready to dance and party the New year with my loved ones.
Chirpychick, Good luck. Bet your excited to meet your little boy. This Christmas will be so special for you all.
Hope everything is now calmed down with the lady who's tree fell over. Hope its now sorted and you manage to redecorate it again. Another excuse to get the mulled wine out while your doing it again.
I feel for the ones who are getting their Christmas spirit ruined by other members of their family. Its so hard to keep everyone happy without Sacrificing your own happiness and enjoyment over the Christmas season. This why we have decided to have no one over Christmas. We plan to watch, do and have what we want and tough to anyone who don't like that and we will then spend the new year with friends and my in laws. If they ain't happy then tough. Sometimes you have to be selfish and say this is what happening and take it or leave it. Hope though that you manage to find a even ground to keep everyone happy though and it works out in the end.
Happy Christmas everyone and long may this thread continue xxxxx'There are far better things ahead Than any we leave behind '0 -
Talking of Christmas cards, I realised something a few weeks ago. When buying birthday cards/get well cards etc, I buy what I think the receiver would like & appreciate, but Christmas cards (I'm talking packs of cards here, not the special ones you would buy for DH, parents etc) I buy what *I* like and would like to receive. How silly is that???
Does anyone else do this? Mind you, I do have a big selection of packs of cards (always bought at a very good price in the sales!) and pick what is most suitable from that to send to each person.

Thats not silly Ruth TBH I think thats what everyone probably does even if subconsciously.
Still don't feel like I've got much Christmas Spirit at the moment but I'm sure that will change come w/e when we put the tree and decs up (hope so anyway)

I'm feeling really Christmassy, but seem to be in a bubble of Xmas denial
Although I have got the kids stuff, not one thing is wrapped, I can't find their stockings - think they may be hidden in the back of the airing cupboard, but can't bring myself to face the 12 months of carp that has built up in front of them! I have still to get my dad something, only got 1 pressie for my DH, need to start making cakes etc for Xmas Fair as school, the list goes on and on. Only 2 weekends left and one of those is out as will be in a fug of tiredness and overindulgence of alcohol. Even though I started planning Xmas in the summer I can see me going into headless chicken mode on 21st. I could be doing something now, but ................... well I don't know why I'm not.
Not to worry, have just bought myself a nice Reindeer broach and earings to start wearing to work as of Thursday - so things aren't too bad ( I really feel I need to start prioritising tasks better:rotfl:)
Hugs to all who need them, Daisyegg hope your tree has recovered, your account of the carpentry in your front room, did make me chuckle, sorryx

Where does everyone get their tea lights to use in a Yankee tart burner? I have Asda ones and they aren't hot enough to melt the wax. I'm wanting to use the one up that I have in it, so I can start burning my Xmas tarts.
I'm sure ikeas were pretty good, but my nearest store is 200 miles away x:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

I have never watched it, and have no idea who was in it or who won.
But I am so glad it is over. People look at you like you are a zombie when you say you don't watch it, and I was getting fed up of hearing about it.
Hopefully now ITV will put something decent on of a weekend.:)
Sorry to any X Factor lovers .:D
I agree with people looking at you like you're a zombie, I don't tend to watch it either and I get some very strange looks!pinknfluffy28 wrote: »well, really struggled through work today, my mind just keeps wandering & i still keeping having crying / stomach lurching moments! Managed to ammend the christmas hamper to make it a wonderful gift just for mum. Took out the "worlds best grandparents" car sign & desk clock, and re-covered the scrapbook to say "for our very special nanna". It still looks really nice & i know mum will appreciate it. Took kids to tesc@ tonight & they chose a box of chocolates & some slippers for my dad. I will also frame & wrap a recent pic of girls for him. I have decided i dont want to meet up with him till new year, but ive wrote xmas card & will text him once a week & on xmas day just to say hi, thats about all i can bring myself to do for now.
My dh has been absoloutly amazing, he doesnt usually handle emotions well, but he has been my hero, just cuddling & listening, & taking it upon himself to order flowers to be delivered to mums xmas eve. I really am a very lucky woman!
I really hope you're ok pinknfluffy, I can only imagine how awful this is for you. Just take each day as it comes. I'm happy to hear you have such a wonderful OH to get you through this.Forgot to ask has anyone else got their tv guides yet? Got mine yesterday though havnt had a proper look through it yet - though likely will be the same old rubbish!
I bought the Radio Times yesterday, had a quick flick through but haven't had chance to have an in-depth look yet! One interesting programme I saw in it is 'The Snowman and the Snowdog' - a new programme about the original Snowman. Will be interesting to see what it's like!
I did multi-quote some other posts whilst I was catching up but they haven't come up on here. OMO I know how hard it is with aparent with a drink problem, my dad has had one my whole life (like you snugglebunny). I adore Christmas but my dad always ends up upsetting me at some point (maybe not directly but by his actions, or something stupid he says) so I always dread this and every year I think it might be different and it isn't. It's taken me a very long time to stop being so angry with him all the time and realise that he has got a problem that is very difficult to get out of and that in reality it must be a pretty miserable life for him. On a selfish note I do feel like I can't drink around him either as it would feel like i'm encouraging it, i'm not a big drinker at all but I do like a tipple at Christmas. I would be more than happy not to drink if my dad wasn't drinking, but I resent him when I don't because of him and he merrily drinks away! My brother told me that as i'm getting married next year my dad has made an effort to stop drinking, when my brother told me this apprently my dad hadn't had anything for 7 weeks, however this was back at the beginning of November so not sure what the situation is at the moment. I'm not supposed to know, i'm guessing my dad finds it easier without the pressure of people's expectations on him. I would dearly love it if he could fight the demons once and for all - that would be my best Christmas present ever in the world! But I don't want to get my hopes up as we have been down this road before and it hasn't worked out. I feel I must say that my dad isn't a bad person, and can be lovely - my I do hate his drink problem and how he can act sometimes.
Oh gosh i'm so sorry everyone - didn't mean to trun this into my life story! I'll stop now!:o:o
