We met Santa at Harrods this weekend! He was very nice, although he did get my daughter's name wrong initially  Lovely weekend with my family, although we did get some bad news - my dad's lung cancer has spread and is inoperable so now it's pain relief only. We're focussing on the time we have left, though, and hopefully pain management will be good enough that it isn't too bad.

Thank you everyone who's posted pictures of their Christmas decorations, they've really boosted my spirits. We're not doing ours till the 12th so I am enjoying everyone else's and trying to regain my Christmas spirit.

    Hello all!

Not had chance to catch up with you all yet. It's quiet here at work today so that's my job for the afternoon ;)

Put my tree up this weekend, the silver and blue theme looks really frosty :)

Finally found what to buy bessie for xmas in Matalano so once that's bought, everyone is done.

Made some sarsparilla vodka and werthers vodka for my dad - not a vodka fan but they're good. Going to make some for us next weekend :)

Hope all of your plans for Christmas are coming along, off to catch up now xxx

ETA: Just sorted pressies for Hubby's family. I'm sure he says "If I give you the list will you order online then you can collect points/cashback" just so that I have to the shopping for him ;)

Princess87- I'm terrified of the dentist && needles etc but I've had to have 2 teeth removed while awake! It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be && tbh I didn't feel anything I'm sure you will be fine just try not to worry about it easier said than done I know :)!!

Sugarspun- I'm sorry to hear about your dads lung cancer!! Cancer is such a horrible thing I hope the time you have together is as magical and special as possible!!

Well yesterday I went into Stockport for the first time shopping with my bf's mum && auntie we went into primark and everywhere else but I was good and only bought what I needed! This was a baby's panda hat set and 2 tops for my stepdads niece!! We also went to openshaw market!! I didn't buy anything but my bf's mum spent about £80 && it looks like she got nothing haha never mind we also went somewhere else but have no idea where! There were a few stalls selling homemade gifts but selling them extremely expensive one stall was selling snowman soup for £5 && chocolate bouquets for £25 (small) large £50

    All your trees look lovely!!

I'm off to now clean the house so I can sit and watch Xmas films while sorting my lists etc out!! Also got to do my asda shop but might do it online!!

thank you, got it from a garden centre in cambridge called scotsdales. i thought it was a bargain, only £9.99 for a 16" sitting or standing santa. think i need to get another one for the otherside though!
    **Waiting for a BIG win!**

    Thank you all posters!

Hi all, will catch up in a little while, but I need to ask some advice.
My dd has recently started to show an interest in hairdressing! (she's 5). Her big sister has this year decided she wants to buy each of us a gift from her pocket money, she's been saving since October! Ive told her we would be happy with chocs or similar, but she is determined she wants to buy her sis one of those styling dolls heads. Ive searched amazon but their very expensive, or the cheap ones have really bad reviews. Can anyone recommend one? DD has £10 to spend on it, but i would be happy to put another £5 to if we can get one.
    Thanks in advance

caitlyn wow, your sis's mother in law sounds awful! whats wrong with a gentle request about the grandmother and the stairs rather than saying it like that! not suprised they have an uneasy relationship now! :)

Hi Snugglebunny8! Thanks for the welcome ( thanks to everyone else also! )
We live in a rather quaint old cottage (1878), which has lovely roof lines, and lends itself to outdoor lights. Looks like a kind of gingerbread house. We seem to be the only ones on our road who decorate outside, which makes it even more special.
We use white icicle lights beneath the guttering attached to cup hooks screwed into the barge boards. Also coloured flashing lights above the round bay window, and coloured lanterns (not flashing) above the front porch and on a magnolia tree outside. Phew - sounds a lot, but it does look pretty!
I was supposed to be cracking on with the inside today, but not feeling too good, so we'll see how that goes.
Have a lovely day everyone! x

that sounds so beautiful! any chance of posting a photo?
  • sugarspun Im so sorry to hear about your dad, sending you all best wishes, went through similar a few years back with family member, if there is any way we can help or you want to let off steam, we are here xx

princess I have had the sedation at the dentist twice and its incredible, literally instant amnesia, (after they finally got the needle in as my veins run and hide!!) however they did give me 2 sedative tablets to take one tablet the night before and one in the morning, so I'd arrive relaxed before the appointment, I wonder if it is worth exploring the option of having just the sedative? (or similar) I didnt take the tablets beforehand as I was a bit scared to as Ive never taken anything like that and thought if I went spaced out or something it might be scary for the kids the night before, but ive been assured it doesnt do that to me. Maybe worth speaking to doctor or dentist and ask if it is possible to have a low dose tablet, maybe help and not need the nurse led sedation? I was thinking of doing that next time I need to go, as Im totally terrified and as you say, sedation works but so expensive, best of luck! xx
