Hello everyone,
Been catching up on about 8 pages!
Firstly congratulations to Maggie, what a brilliant surprise.
Have to say the pictures of all the makes on here the last few days have been absolutely amazing :T .
Very lovely trees everyone.
We put ours up last night. In the end I got so fed up of getting up to tweak it after sitting down that I had to sit near it so I couldn't see it :)Although not only have we found that you can't really see the star on the top, but one of the branches has broken. New one next year for us(hopefully in the sales)
Sorry for those who have been ill, at least you will have hopefully gotten it out of your systems/out of the way so you are not ill over Christmas.
To those doing fairs Good luck and don't be too dis-heartened over the first ones, like others have said there may have been weather factors or just that the people who did come to them are like us and have finished their shopping but have attended for a nosey and to feel Christmassy. I'm sure others less prepared will attend and buy.
Started wrapping presents last night and will prob finish them today. Though I'm not sure if its due to being more crafty this year or needing to be more conservative with money but I like others on here have seen stuff in the shops and either thought you could make that for cheaper or is that it? It all just looks uninspired and impersonal.
Last thing! Welcome more newbies and I use the thanks button for a few things, if I'm behind I look for my last thanks. Also normally posts have some info of links/programmes/bargins/ideas so I click thanks for that. Or just that people are as Christmas crazy as me and so I thank them for being here and being so welcoming and chatty with me then I know I am not alone and a complete loony :rotfl:13 projects in 2013 0/130 -
Oh and just to confirm my loony-ness.We have the tree near a nest of tables, which I have put a few Christmassy things on. But this is where the box of tissues are in our living room and we only ever buy either basic range or plain boxes, so I decided that this was not good enough near our tree so I would Christmas it up. I wrapped it in red tissue paper and wrapped two lines of Merry Christmas ribbon (red and gold to match the tree) around it and finished by curling the ends.
This is when my o/h said I was finally taking it too far13 projects in 2013 0/130 -
Gettingtherequickly - those cards sound lovely, did you manage to get a picture of them at all?

Sorry, didn't think of that. Unfortunately, although one of the girls has 4 ds which she adores, she lost her only dd to meningitis at 9 mths, so although she is happy to talk about it, we try to avoid talking about bubs, especially at this time of the year.A smile costs little but creates much0 -
Looks gorgeous! Also, I LOVE the lights above your table in the kitchen area!
These are incredible! You must be so patient. I do OK with cupcakes but I have to stick to the er...messy variety - e.g. something like rocky road cupcakes. Anything that requires neatness or me working with white icing for too long is not a good idea!
Chickywiggle the lego chocolates look fab too! I have chocolate gingerbread men to make but not making them too soon or I will eat them all.
Thanks for this, may take you up on it at some point! She was really upset at first because they dwelled on how young she was to need the operation (do consultants EVER engage their brains before they speak?!) but she's much calmer now. She didn't want to Google for more information so I did but all I could really find were horror stories of people who'd left it too long and were now going blind. So she's focusing on the positive of them catching it early enough. They're doing both eyes but one is worse, think they're doing the other eye as preventative. She's off on maternity leave at the moment, they think she'll have the operation sometime in April, how long would you say she might need help for? They've said a few days in hospital but no mention of how much help she'll need when she gets home. She has a 3 month old and a 2 and 1/2 year old so she tends to never stop as it is!
be very happy to share experiences and help in any way, do you mind if I ask what the issue with the retina was? (pm me if you would rather) my hubby had torn and detached retina due to trauma - playing footy; blow above the eye, he had a vitrectomy. First one they put in a gas bubble to replaces removed vitreous fluid, so you have to 'posture' your head in a specific position to work with gravity so the bubble puts pressure on the part of the retina repaired while it heals, the bubble slowly decreases as the vitreous regenerates. He had so much trauma he had a reoccurance to the detachment and had to have 2nd op in which they used oil instread, this stays in until totally healed then is drained but no posturing needed (his other ops were oil removal and additional laser work). With posturing you need to stay in the same position majority of the time, so if she were to have that type of op she would need help with children etc, if oil was used posturing not usually required as I understand it. Issue with retinal ops is that you cannot lift anything or do anything that will strain you in any way, until the consultant clears you, so she will need help lifting children etc.
Pm me if thre is anything I can answer or ask hubby, or let you know our experience of. Please send her our best wishes.
That info is based only on what we experienced though, based on a vitrectomy for retinal tearing and detachment, so some of it may not apply as it would I expect depend on exactly what the op is that shes havingOne thing which I hope will reassure her, is that my hubby had no pain whatsoever with any of the ops afterwards - he did have to have hourly drops (sometimes 4 an hour so I couldnt go very far!!) and wear an eye shield at night to prevent rubbing of the eye in your sleep etc, which I had to put on for him. Some people we got to know during our many appointments and follow ups, lived alone and learned to put their own drops in ... I did not let hubby attempt that!!!

caitlyn ps we were so lucky to have an absolutely brilliant consultant. However one time (when it started to detach a 2nd time) we had to go in fast and our guy wasnt there, so we saw another consultant ... who was very blunt, ok can live with that, but when I was trying not to get upset he LITERALLY patted me on the head and said something along the lines of 'dont worry about it' ...erm ....0

Hi everyone!
Hope there's room for another on this wonderful thread? This is my first ever post, on any forum! I have followed you all since page 1, but didn't have the nerve to join in. I feel that I know you all so well now, and love seeing your amazing makes amd photos.
Anyway, seeing as it's December1st, I thought I would take the plunge and jump right in! Apologies in advance if I get something wrong.
Everyone on here is so supportive and helpful, I feel I have found some like minded friends!
Our outside Xmas lights were switched on today. My OH (bless him ) has spent the last few evenings fiddling with the connections, so they would be ready. They look beautiful, even if I say so myself :j
We also bought our Xmas trees today, which I will decorate tomorrow. I have booked some holiday from work next week, so the rest of the house will be "done" then. Hopefully, I will then have time to do some Xmas crafting.
Sorry, I seem to have rambled on a little, but am so pleased to have joined in at last. Take care everyone. x
welcome hun!! so glad you have joined usIve never had outside lights (though the inside looks like Santa's grotto!!) and keep meaning to do something, what sort of lights have you put up? couldnt let my DH loose with ladders, drills etc, so wondering if I can get some kind of icicle lights to hang from the windows or along guttering? xx

Im so sorry to hear about your poor dd Chrissy, how is she now? sending you all lots of hugs
the Am@zon monthly voucher is a great idea, I find you can log them on your Am@zon account and then use them as you go along too, in case you see a sudden price drop or offer throughout the year. I do this too, starting each January I use my Valued Opini0ns rewards, I usually alternate between an Am@zon voucher and M&S vouchers which I use for the Christmas food. Can also do it with T0pcashback as they add I think 5% if you claim in am@zon vouchersxx
