You can hear a car nearby even if you don't see them, so is it possible she was listening to music or talking on mobile as she went past the drive? Though that wouldn't explain why the driver didn't see her.

Ok - you typed whilst I did. Glad you've found out the reason.

A bit delicate this one but would it be possible to have a word with this friends granny?
This is a big bug bear to me as it's an offence and bl**dy dangerous to both pedestrians and other drivers.
I do hope DSD will be ok.

  • I have a feeling that what actually happened is that a mate who doesn't have a licence did it. Like a boy showing off his reversing at speed skills.

The obvious answer in that situation is to blame someone who is the complete opposite - a mad old woman.

The FB status could be to throw you off the scent.

I agree with Jojo that the FB status may not be true either - I hope she feels much better this morning, and more able to be open about what happened.

I think you should just drop it, she's 17 not 7 and if she doesn't want to call the police its up to her, not you.

If she's not badly injured why will there be a financial burden on you and why would it affect her chances with the job?

You sound like you've got yourself all wound up here but the main thing is that she's ok, so just calm down a bit!

Actually I am quite calm, just gobsmacked once again by how selfcentered and selfish she is. The nature of the job is such that she can't do it with even a minor injury - she knows that.

What are her injuries? Are they as serious enough to effect her job as you think they are, or are they not serious as she thinks there are? Presumably if she's only just put in an application for the job she won't be starting immediatley.

TBH, it sounds like she's not entirely innocent in all this, perhaps she walked behind the reversing car because she wasn't paying attention, probably texting or the like, or was messing about behind the car.

Although if the friends granny story were true I would have expected her to contact you to make sure your SD is OK. The fact that she hasn't seems a bit fishy to me, I agree with others that this could be a smoke screen to protect a friend.

Have you suggested that you contact the granny to let her know your SD is ok?

Must agree here! I'm sure if I'd reversed and hit someone, I'd be out the car in a flash making sure she was ok. And I'd contact the parents to say what had happened.

    Either

She's refusing to report it because it's her friend's granny and granny is very upset and it was an accident -and we forgive people we know accidents more readily than people we don't know

    or

She was messing about (it seems a bit of a cosmic coincidence it was someone she knew)

    or

Granny wasn't driving and it was a 16 year old prank gone wrong

The more you nag at her the more she'll clam up-I'd let it drop if she doesn't disclose anymore in the net day or two-she's 16 not 6 you can't (and shouldn't) force her.

Yes her injury is serious enough that she can't do the job at present - which is why we're a little less than sympathetic to the notion that she's the only person who matters. The understanding was that there was a position coming up which she could apply for if she passed the exam on Sunday, which she did. (It's not automatic, the red tape requires application, interview etc). But if she can't take it up then they will have to employ someone else. Hopefully there will still be an opening for her when she gets full use of her arm back but it's not guaranteed.
