Dispute with Under 18 PayPal account holder

Hi,
I have a dispute with PayPal regarding an Unauthorised Claim. Im about to lose the case as the TV I sold was picked up locally and there's no proof of delivery. I will lose £550 if that happens.
My question is....
What if a PayPal account holder is someone who is not 18 yet? In order to use PayPal you have to be 18 years old. If the registered account is registered on the name of someone who is not 18 yet, will this cause PayPal legal problems in regard to the case or 'debt collectors'? Or the opposite will happen, the account holder will get into more trouble?
Regards,
George

Whoever opened the account had to agree that they were over 18, so I would have thought that it could be seen to be fraud, or something like that.0

I also think it more likely to be more problematic if a claim that seller is under 18 is suddenly made.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What ever happens you have no proof the buyer picked up the item. You will not get your money back, it's the biggest scam on ebay. Even if they were under 18 you will not get your money back. I know you have posted this several times on different boards everyone is still giving you the same answer.0

Wow
The depths some people will sink to is utterly disgusting. I was thinking of selling some high end electronic stuff on eBay before but now I'm glad I didn't if this type of thing happens.I SUPPORT CAT RESCUE! Visit Cat Chat to support cat rescue too.

This scam is easily avoided by following paypal rules to send tracked. Special delivery or a courier with guaranteed tracking is what you need, go and read the postage sticky thread for more information.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It's the oldest trick in the book and I can't believe that people still fall for it.
If someone had paid via paypal and insisted on collecting, I would just refund them straight away and get negged, rather than risk losing my money and item. :eek:Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
100% agreed! Only right action, always!Abbafan1972 wrote: »It's the oldest trick in the book and I can't believe that people still fall for it.

I am curious, what makes you think the account holder was not 18?
How old do you need to own a credit card in the UK? You need credit card normally for Paypal account.
Maybe the guy picked up was a young guy, I am assuming you might be using that reasoning, if so, what makes you think he was the original account holder?
The accounts are normally either hacked, or they set up accounts with stolen credit card number/credit cards. What if a PayPal account holder is someone who is not 18 yet? Ebay could do a lot more to prevent this happening, but they only ever care about buyers.
When you list an item and offer local pickup whilst accepting payment by PayPal a big red box should come up and warn people about this scam. But it won't happen because eBay don't give a hoot about their sellers.
But to the OP, you are on to a loser pursuing the under-18 thing. Get in touch with the police and contact your home insurer.0
