"If you eat a bowl of vegetable soup for your dinner you can have a sticky donut afterwards?" that kind of thing Tilly??
DawnW - The kiev/escalope thing really bugs me! Unfortunately they are extremely handy to have in the freezer in forgetful moments when I haven't got anything out for dinner and only remember this at 5pm. This is why I cook for Mr Ammonite, we'd be bankrupt otherwise!
I think its that they don't "get" it. An escalope may only be 50p, so two is only £1...but in my mind that's two meals for a pound that is going into one mouth! It all adds up. Plus I'm super tight.
PS- Would just like to point out Mr Ammonite DOES NOT starve lol!0 -
have you thought of cheaper options?
iceland do 40 fishfingers for £2 so 5p each now my hubby loves fishfingers and is more than happy to get 6 and he'll feel full, thats only 30p, or chicken nuggets again nice with mash and beans for a quick tea 72 are £3 so 4p each and i sometimes give him 10 and there piled on his plate, i usually have about 6 and the kids have 3-4.
alternatively if you don't want processed rubbish (i liek a wee bit of processed rubbish) you could make and freeze hm pizzasDEC GC £463.67/£450

Thanks for the nugget suggestion quintwins. Sadly OH doesn't see fish as meat either. I have a real fussy (expensive) hunter-gatherer here! :rotfl:
Pizza are good options, I must stock up in Aldi when I next go. I prefer home cooking but occasional processed stuff is fine (and handy!) to have in the freezer!0 -
Can I join the carnivore-wives support group? Mr MRN eats a lot but does a lot of physical activity for work - he's always ranting on about correct protein and carb intake and how important it is for him to eat protein post phys and carbs pre-phys. I've shown him my lentil tricks (formerly my secret trick to pad out mince dishes) and that broccoli has lots of important iron in it but he's not interested!
He'd be seriously unimpressed with any processed meat!MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
Do join the merry band MRN!
Ooh I didn't know lentils could sneakily pad out mince dishes! I will have to try that in the future! I don't really begrudge him anything - he just won't see that fish and cheese and eggs are viable protein alternatives!

I'll count myself lucky then... fish is seen as a protein source my MrMRN. But he'll have half a fish instead of what I'd call a fillet.
Yep lentils are a great padder. However, one got stuck to the side of the lasagne dish and sister-in-law said "have you put lentils in this?" in a quizzical shocked manner. I made up some mush about flavour and texture so she didn't think I was cheap!MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
I like lentils in my bolognese - in fact, I'll happily make lentil bolog for me without any mince - something my DH just couldn't begin to contemplate!
Mine will see fish as a meal - but we are talking LARGE fish here. And fish is rare here, to be honest. I don;t like the smell, so only do cod. And I am rather intolerant to shellfish (not pretty if I eat any) so we don't have things like that here, either.
As well as things having to be meat based, DH isn't a fan of lentils added to stuff. Comes from his childhood when money was v tight so they always lived on things like lentils, chickpeas, beans, bulger wheat and the like. He equates such items with having no moneyHe has come a long way since I met him, but still has a way to go!

So what you are both saying is that whale-sized fish is meat
No updates on the money front really, just going to throw everything on the 0% card this month after my giant mess-up when I put all the savings into the ISA forgetting about the cheques I'd written. It'll sort itself out next month as I won't put the savings in the ISA, I'll just pay off the card.
Got £7.50 profit from eBay so will put that in the Xmas fund. Plugging away with review sites but haven't been paid by any of them yet, I'm positive I redeemed over a month ago now, will check back through the diary and chase them up.
Have a happy Saturday night folks x0 -

Probably a good 'mistake' since you'll get an extra month's interest on the booboo transfer!MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0
