Hi Ammonite, enjoy the cushions and you can take delight in seeing them every day. I always used to go and look at rooms we had decorated, or bought something new for

Tilly - I would rather buy something I really liked even if I have to wait/save for it than get something that will "do" - something of course are fine to just do us but some key items really make me smile when I see them. I'm pleased with the cushions.
Payday!!!!
Can't do the full banking regime until the second payday in the household but have done the savings. We now have 8.959% of the mortgage in savingsSooooo close to 9% and we will probably do that by the end of the month I would have thought (really expecting my DooYoo payment any time now!).
Not having a credit card to pay off is great. I must remember this feeling! I pay it off monthly but there always seems to be more on it than I remembered. Not having huge petrol outlay and a reigned in grocery budget has really really helped this month they are 2 of the bills we can sort of control I guess.
The cash social budget worked well too so we will be doing that again this month. No major nights out or events this month just one birthday to account for and buy a suitable present for.0 -
Happy payday

Thanks all
Went buying a few things for the house yesterday (nothing exciting - just gate, fence etc.) and we had budgeted around £500 based on the one we liked. When we got there we changed our mind based on the fact it didn't look very sturdy, picked another one and total cost was £200was verrrryy pleased! Still have lots of other things to spend the money on unfortunately but I was really really happy with how much we saved there. Long may it continue on the rest of our house purchases

Great news all roundA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Thanks all
I think we will probably do the 9% this month without too many problems assuming the review sites pay up!

Well finances aren't looking so good this month, I've put our normal (plus a bit extra) savings away completely forgetting about the cheque I wrote for almost £600 that hasn't been cashed yet for work on the house. So now the money is stuck in an ISA and I'm loathed to take it out but will have to or go overdrawn.
Bad planning Mrs Ammonite! Cheques really lure me into a false sense of security
Still waiting for darned payments from review sites, it is really getting boring waiting so long but worth it in the end. Half way to another £50 from DY already though so it is worth it.
Haven't been using the car half as much due to annual leave so have saved loads on petrol this month. Had a nice free-ish day out at the park today, a light lunch and icecreams cost us £10 so was pleased with that.
Grocery shopping is averaging about £30 per week which is much better than it was when I started the diary. I don't buy more than I know we can eat which sounds obvious.
No more updates on the savings front but with the review money coming in we should do the 9%......just annoyed that the house money is stuck in the ISA! grr0 -
H Ammonite, just found your diary and have read already
You are doing fantastically well!!! :T
I also struggle with food budget, so have started meal planning (supermarket buy once a month) and weekly shop on a Monday for perishables..... I take a list, don't deviate and have found this to work really well so far! Like you mentioned, I also seem to be a serial food hoarderand I'm trying to run cupboards/freezer down!!
Hope you had a good bank holiday! Look forward to reading your diary! Addictive indeed the saving and diary reading is
