OOO welcome Morganarla :T
I'd just take it easy and gradually transition, that way your palate will gradually change and you'll find it easier and miss lessSame with the lifestyle factors, gradually reduced your impact on the animal suffering and you'll still be helping - btw Lush is a good shop to transition to :rotfl:

Hey thanks savvy!
Am trying to transition slowly, facing a LOT of opposition from my family so trying to keep it quiet atm. Just do not have the energy to battle them at this point in my life.
Same friend that introduced me to the idea sent me a surprise at work yesterday - a vegan coffee cake! The most delicious cake I've ever had - couldn't believe it! The keyboard is covered in crumbs as I'm scoffing the rest of it nowHe is such a darling
I really am missing stuff though... I deliberately haven't been shopping to avoid buying fresh things like eggs... There's still cheese in the fridge which I'm using up but man I miss things like bacon, steak. Hoping the cravings will pass..
But already (after only a couple of weeks) I'm feeling better. Maybe it's a mind over matter thing but I do feel healthier in a lot of ways.0 -

The first vegan I ever met told me when I went vegetarian that I would get cravings because the body is detoxing and the toxins are coming out with a vengeance.........I was lucky as I wasn't eating a great deal of meat so didn't have the problem too much. Cheese was a bit worse when I went vegan this year, but after a while it doesn't seem to bother me much. And if you focus on the suffering to animals in the meat and dairy industryand the disgusting things that go on in slaughter houses by the workers  then you tend to find you are MORE than happy not to eat the stuff and support it all!
Trust me, it's not in the mind at all, have you read any literature on veganism at all? There are tons of studies about the beneficial health effects of vegan and raw vegan nutrition that will back up what you are finding. It's helped me massively and I don't get as ill as I used to now :T:T:jHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Hi all , am a happy veggie ( hubby too ):rotfl: and we often eat vegan . I use soya milk which is fine for everything except it curdles in coffee . Tea its ok for me with soya milk .... Is there anything I can do to stop it curdling in coffee ?
Cheese is our downfall , Ive found dairy free parmesan which is good but dont like the other false cheeses on offer . Any ideas to substitute cheese ?
Thanks and well done to those who have managed to be vegan !:A0 -
Have you tried Kara coconut milk at all?? Tbh I don't really drink tea or coffee, but Starbucks manage to do soya milk quite well in coffee and Shakeaway use it well in their hot drinks too......I wonder if their secret is heating the milk then adding it??
As for the cheese thing, the best ever is Daiya..........but comes at a high price from USA at the moment:(

LOL no it doesn't smell or taste of coconut (which is disappointing for me cos I love the stuff ha ha), but it has a nice consistency - thicker than rice milk but thinner than soya. Tesco also sells it btw just in case your H&B don't have it. Have you ever tried almond or oat milks?Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Morning all!
Veggie breakfast this morning (can't be vegan all the time just yet, especially when in the middle of moving house and trying not to get groceries!!) and a huge mug of tea with vanilla soya milk yummmmmmmm.
After I've zipped off to work to do yet more unpaid overtime, hoping to pop on over to the Alt Veg Fest in East London. Should be fun and hopefully somewhat of an education.
Savvy - I have been doing some research and my friend has been sending me literature as well. Being in the veterinary profession and of farming background sadly I am aware of what goes on in the meat/animal product industry.
I'm ashamed to say that my attitude towards my diet has be one of blindly following what I was brought up with, and also that one person alone making the change to avoid animal-derived foods of any kind would not make an difference whatsoever. I do now realize I'm wrong on that.
Once the moving is over (this coming Sunday) I will be in a position to go completely vegan and get my diet sorted. Looking forward to it, especially as I appear to have found out that Becks beer is vegan?! (someone please hastily correct me if this is not actually the case!) :beer:0 -

Hiah,
I have also asked this question on the os vegan thread recently and on facebook. I don't drink coffee myself - was finding out for a new vegan internet cafe in Preston, so haven't tried any of these.
From what i've been told Provamil soya cream, oatly cream and the coconut milk already mentioned give good results. There was also mentions of using holland and barrett and sainsburys milk. I have also been told that filtered coffee doesn't curdle, but then someon on here said it does for her. I think its due to the acidity of the coffee, so I guess its just trial and error to see what works with your favourite coffee. We haven't experimented and tried any yet.
