    Hi again,

    http://www.animalfreeshopper.com

You might find this site useful.

Becks is listed, don't know if this is all the range, as I don't drink beer!

Savvy - I have been doing some research and my friend has been sending me literature as well. Being in the veterinary profession and of farming background sadly I am aware of what goes on in the meat/animal product industry.

I'm ashamed to say that my attitude towards my diet has be one of blindly following what I was brought up with, and also that one person alone making the change to avoid animal-derived foods of any kind would not make an difference whatsoever. I do now realize I'm wrong on that.

Once the moving is over (this coming Sunday) I will be in a position to go completely vegan and get my diet sorted. Looking forward to it, especially as I appear to have found out that Becks beer is vegan?! (someone please hastily correct me if this is not actually the case!)
I know what you mean, I was the same........couldn't ever imagine that a meal could be made without meat  and what difference does one person make? WOW how wrong I was and thank god I've been given the ability to think outside the box and not follow the masses.

Oh and Barnivore.com is pretty useful for drinks ;)

    A 'one-day' vegan here!
I've been lacto-ovo-veggie for almost 10 years - eat free range eggs, milk, veggie cheese - but don't consume any products with death in the manufacturing process, so no leather / lots of wines/beers are out / no gelatine etc
My husband has also been veggie for about 4yrs now too - so the only meat eaters in this house are the dog and cat!
The ultimate plan is to cut out dairy entrely - but it'll be a long slow road!

Hi andthethreebears, good work so far :T slowly and gradually transitioning probably works best anyway so you can successfully break the old habits :)

It has taken me nearly a year to get rid of the dairy (I'm almost there now!) From my experience, slow is definitely the best way, and you're doing great for even trying. :)

I like Tofutti's cream cheese thingy (Garlic and Herb = mmmmmm), but you do have to watch out for the hydrogenated oils in those. The ones in my local Holland and Barrett were hydrogenated oil free fortunately! I have heard that Sheese cheddar style cream cheese is especially good, and I will be sampling some on Friday to put the theory to the test! I also like nutritional yeast for cheesey cooking.

I have had less luck with hard cheese but I have found Redwood's super melting stuff to be palatable, although it does take some getting used to. The only downside I have found is how expensive the stuff is! I'm a part time student living with a full time student so I can rarely afford the hard cheese, although the cream cheese seems to last forever!

    Hi,

Unless it has changed recently the tesco own brand cheapest unsweetened is organic, they cannot state it on the front because it is fortified with vitamins that are not organic. Check the ingredients on the side. If you use unsweetened this may save you some money. Its always worth reading the ingredients because fortified products cannot be classed as organic but they may be organic otherwise! I only use sweetended so haven't checked for a while.

Hope this hasn't changed and helps someone.

  • Well I ventured into H & B today and got me some Redwoods fake cheese stuff...

Am still awake at this stupid hour and am hungry so have made sort of mini pizzas.. Toast with tomato puree and cheese basically.. I got the melty mozzarella stuff and tried it with that.. Hmm. Not sure about it. It just ain't the same as real cheese! But not half as bad as I thought it would be must admit. Maybe it'll jjust be an acquired taste?
