Hi Sarahsaver, great to meet local people :hello: . I eventually got some smoked tofu, Holland and Barrett ordered it in for me, but I'll definately give the site you mentioned a look.
My wee bug bare at the moment is the recent price increase of alpro soya milk....10p a carton:eek:New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0 -
Ooh I'm not there anymore, came to leicester uni in 1989 and sstayed. It was so easy with so many hindu vegetarians here, nobody thought being a veggi/vegan was weird;)
My Mum is still in Bury, and she became a veggie after I did when I was 14 or so. she is nearly 70 now.

I've just had a blood test done for intolerances and found I don't have a wheat intolerance now (but still can't eat as it's too acidic for me at the mo) but that I'm intolerant to whole egg and cow's milk/cheese, on top of that I've got Candida so have to follow a yeast and sugar free diet!
But luckily I've found a really nice dairy and sugar free chocolate to cheer me up a bit!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Really enjoying this thread as ds1 and I are lactose intolerant and trying all the different alternative products.
If anyone is on holiday in the Lake District, the Whinlatter Visitor centre is fab - ds1 and I were thrilled with the whole menu marked up with the vegan options - ds1 had a choccy cake and I had a fruity flapjack and a baguette with vegan mushroom pate.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

How does everyone cope without milk?! I am almost vegan but I love milky tea and have tried soya milk but it's just not the same. Are there any good milk substitus out there?Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

I found after a while that I adjusted to soy milk - personally I like Alpro or SoGood. You could try rice milk, or almond milk as alternatives. I think one of the reasons why the taste of soy is so different to cows milk is the lower fat content.0 -
Agreed that trying different milks is key. I've not had dairy milk for years and years, but I still think soyamilk is pretty gnarly when drunk plain. Rice milk however, hits the spot for me, and almond milk is delicious! (though probably not in tea)Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0

Water on porridge and black coffee, lemon tea. Fruit juice on muesli. I still dislike milk after years of not being a vegan anymore, I can taste a hint of cow in the milk occasionally which is really offputting :eek:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Hey there, i'm almost vegan i don't eat any meat or fish, no eggs as eggs but sometimes eat things containing them like quorn. I can't eat cheese, yoghurt or drink milk because of intolerabce to the lactose plus chees is too fatty for me and for some reason this kick starts my IBS so cheese is a no no. Has anyone found a vegan cheese which actually melts? like for cheese on toast. I tried cheezly, the round one and although it looked like cheese it didn't matter how long i left it under the grill the bloody stuff was un-meltable!
Speaking of soya milk in tea try the so good one it's in the chiller cabinet in the shops and out of all the ones i've tried i find it the best.
I'm with you sarah on the fruit juice, apple juice on muesli is one of my favourite breakfasts0 -
:hello: And another vegan here.0
