Carpet cleaning with a Rug Doctor

ok so I am serious nesting mode and also really want to deep clean the carpets before the baby arrives.
We have a year old puppy and the carpets are light so really do need it.
I was looking into hiring a rug doctor, has anyone had any experience using them and are they any good?
Also are the difficult to move around - as in very heavy?
We are in a 2 bedroom bungalow - so luckily no stairs!!
OH will be helping but I would like to do some it of myself too
TIA xLove reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!0 -
I've hired one twice (different houses).
I was quite impressed at the amount of dirt taken out of what didn't seem to be a particularly dirty carpet.
I also thought it took a lot of water out, it was better than the Vax I had used previously.
I wouldn't say the machines are particularly heavy to use, but I suppose that could be subjective really.
A small petite 6 stone lady would feel it heavier than a 6', 15 stone bloke for instance.
I'm female and found it perfectly manageable.Herman - MP for all!0 -
thanks
How long did it take for the carpets to dry completely? glad to hear it takes a lot of the water out!! as will be doing it next month = so will have to have the heating on I guessLove reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!0 -
I did mine late afternoon/early evening and left the heating on in the room overnight. I didn't want anyone walking on it when it was even slightly damp.
The carpet was dry next morning.Herman - MP for all!0 -

We have horrid old carpets an the well rated by which Bessel carpet cleaner. Its good, but not a patch on the rug doctor things. What rug doctor did to our ancient carpets is really impressive
I do find it heavy, but I am quite weak. And its worth it
I recommend buying the spray things to treat 24 hours before ( so before hire period starts. They do make a difference.0 -
We used one a few years back after our dog at the time had puppies! It will amaze you how much dirt comes out of the carpet, If I remember correctly we went over the same carpet a few times. It took all day for the carpet to dry and it was on a lovely sunner day and even then it was still slightly damp. Worst problem with them is having to move everything out of the room and back in again!! HTHNessy x

Congrats,How far along are you? I rented a rug doctor over the summer was mighty impressed and disgusted at the same time
at the amount of muck it drew you have drag the machine across the floor it can be quite awkward as it's quite heavy and you have to empty the waste water a lot if you have a large space, it's not something I would use if I was expecting TBH.
It also would probably be worth pricing up a firm to come do it for you my sister took this option and there was very little difference in price between someone doing for her and what i paid with hiring the machine and buying the anti-foamer you will need this even if you don't buy there carpet shampoo, i know which option im taking next year0 -
Here it is cheaper to get a company in to do it0
