Carpet cleaning with a Rug Doctor

  • I have also used a Rug Doctor and have been delighted with the results. Yes it is a bit noisy and the refilling became a bit of a drag however when I used it I was able to leave the windows open and my carpets dried out pretty quickly. I hired it for one day and was able to clean all the carpets in my two-bedroomed flat as well as my boyfriend's two-bedroomed flat and the seats and carpets in both our cars - we thought it represented really good value for money.

Can't recommend it highly enough. We hired one earlier in the year to tackle our living room carpet (pale green) and the one in the bedroom (cream). Worked absolutely brilliantly - removed lipstick, dried emulsion paint, and various other toddler-related stains without too much effort.

As already said, it is noisy and you seem to have to refill it often. We hired ours for 48 hours, which was only about a fiver for the extra day.

Well worth it. In the past we have hired people to clean the carpets 'professionally', but have found the results to be worse than using the rug doctor.

  • Hello, found this thread through google!

We're moving out of our rented house on saturday and for fear of losing part of our deposit we're thinking of using one of the rug doctors from morrissons. Just wanted people opinions of them? Are they any good? Complicated to use? The rooms are quite small and have beds to manouvre around, so is the rug doctor bulky...will it be a problem?

Hi, apologise if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find it anywhere.

I have a three year old carpet on my staircase and landing, and to say that is is disgustingly dirty is an understatement.

I priced some carpets and it will cost £330 to replace as it is a funny shaped landing.

anyway the rug doctor thing in homebase is £19 to hire for 24 hours so was thinking this might be an alternative.

Has anyone used one and does it get stains out of carpets?

I think if it worked I could maybe put up with the carpet for another year.

I hired one from Morrisons, but found it left the carpets very wet and it goes through cleaning fluid very fast if you have a large area to clean. I ended up using the soft furnishing hose and attachment on the carpets, as it did a better job, but it doesn't have an extended stiff hose so I was on my hands and knees doing it. In the past I hired a cleaning machine from a plant hire shop that was just a hose type and it was far better, leaving the carpets much drier and you could control the amount of detergent you sprayed on the carpet.

My lounge carpet needs a clean and i normally like to get someone in to do it. but i thought i'd be moneysaving this time. i've seen in morrisons you can hire a rug doctor and it works out quite cheap.

But i don't know anyone who has used it ?

I'm wondering how hard is it to use ?
I'm pregnant and i'd like to do this not have to ask hubby to help, so how heavy is it ?
    Does it clean well ?

i kinda figured it isn't going to be moneysaving if i rent the machine, only to find it doesn't do a good job and i need to get someone in anyway.

All feedback good and bad welcomed

I have used these a few times and always been pretty happy with the results! Seeing the colour of the dirty water is both satisfying and disgusting lol

They are very heavy and awkward though :( you have to pull them backwards really slowly in a straight line over the carpet, wheel forwards, pull back etc etc. I remember trying to use one while pregnant but I very much regretted it the next day :o My hubby did take over in the end if I remember rightly.

I cant remember if it says this on the instructions but we always go over the carpets once more with plain water after the soapy wash, to make sure all the soap is out. It does seem to make a difference as I read that leaving soap in the carpet attracts dirt!!!

I hired something from B&Q... not sure what it was called.. it's heavy and hard to move about... but the results are well worth it! I went through loads of solutions though x
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!
