My morrisons sell it in 2 litre incriments and i dont know if 2 litres will be enough
    I'm wanting to do the bedroom carpet (18'5 x 13'11) and the lounge (15'2 x 11'9)

We have an old vax machine but it doesn't seem to clean the carpets as well as I would like so I was thinking of hiring a rug doctor. What is the average cost for renting one and would two days be better than one?
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Just finished Rug doctoring my lounge and dining rooms - they are similar dimensions to the ones you quote and I bought a 2 litre detergent and have about 2 more "doses" left for the wider machine (which takes 14 litres of water a time as opposed to the regular which takes 9 litres).

Would definitely recommend the wider machine - it's a fiver more a day but so much quicker and needs filling a lot less often.

I also bought the "pro traffic lane cleaner" for extra dirty areas or stains for the first time. I have to say it is the most fantastic stain remover I have ever used! I have cream carpets in my lounge and dining room and 2 children and 2 cats, and there is not a stain or mark left and believe me the carpet was so bad I thought that we would probably have to get another. Even old stains that we had tried everything with came out.

The cats aren't happy though - think we were supposed to ask their permission before wetting the carpets and moving furniture! lol
  • hey budy if you dnt want to hire a rugs doctor you can visit google and find some site which helps in rugs cleaning it will help you to clean your rugs own..and ill not also cost you..like hiring some one so you can try this...
  • After using the rug doctor my carpets became dirty quite quickly, we called in a professional to rinse them properly.

What he said made me think if these machines were any good we as pros would use them. The quicker the carpet resoils the more times you hire gotcha.:(
  • Would I be correct in thinking that these Rug Doctor machines aren't suitable for cleaning stairs?

(If this is the case, is there an alternative that wouldn't leave an "obvious gap" between the stairs & hall/landing in terms of cleanliness?)

I'm planning to buy a Bissell again if I can't get my current one fixed, they're excellent, my oatmeal carpets were black and they came up like new. Carpets dried out quickly as well. The solution is expensive but it really works....unfortunately it stopped working after only a couple of years. I know that doesn't sound good but it had worked pretty hard in that time and I think it's just an electrical problem in the machine.

There is apparently a hand attachment for that very purpose. Remember to ask for it.

However you clean your carpets they are going to be quite wet when finished. I use old bed sheets to put down to soak up the residue, walking over it ( with shoes on)amazing how wet they get, but it does prevent tramping dirt back into an already wet surface.
    You live..You learn.:)
  • i hire a rug doctor from morrisons. brilliant results. but they do state that if you dont use their detergent, and there is problem (?), they arent responsible.

never had a problem them. brilliant machines.
