I know...the post was for the benefit of Figment, even though I replied to you(as you were the one who drew my attention to the pic).

My dad's got an old Aspire A110L which had been getting awfully bogged down lately - probably because I put the latest versions of Firefox and Flash on it.

I replaced Linpus with Bodhi, added a few missing apps and made a few minor tweaks. Good as new! :D

As a long shot you could try SliTaz. 35mb for a full graphical desktop working entirely from 192MB of RAM. Now it might not work without so help but if it does it'll be quick. I prefer it to Puppy.

That looked ideal to run on my old 20GB PC whose HDD is nearly full after running XP for 9 years, so I downloaded the .iso and tried to burn it onto my pendrive using the software shown. I've adjusted the BIOS to boot first and second from the 2 USB options, but Windows just boots as normal. Can you tell from this screenshot if it is actually burnt on, and do I have to do something further? I let the software format the pendrive for me beforehand.

Looks OK to me; maybe it just won't boot from a stick. Has it got an ODD?

I'd prefer a USB because they are so much more portable, but the machine does have a CD Rewriter. Can a CD-RW disc have a burnt image deleted and written over?

The other BIOS options are ZIP100, LAN, LS120, SCSI, USB-FDD and USB-ZIP. I set it to boot the last two first.

Yup. You might need some extra software to burn the .iso though; Windows XP doesn't have that capability built-in.

I have Nero 5 Burning ROM 5.5.9.14 (2002) Will that do?

I installed Recorder v.2, but at the end of the process you had to click 'close' to finish. That was the last I saw of it! It's not in 'all programmes' or the start menu.

I've chosen an older version of Puppy and downloaded the .iso for 4.3.1.
I want to burn it as 'not final' but I can't find that option in Nero. I want to be able to do this (with a CD):
you can also save to the same CD/DVD that you booted from (Here, DVD works better, but the DVD containing Puppy must be burned initially as "not final", i.e., that more files can be added to it; advanced CD burning software can do this in Windows, and Puppy has BurnISO2cd for this).

I don't understand why it is helpful for them to say that suitable software is included in this OS! What user-friendly software would do this?

Whilst Nero will do this by default if you're just burning a collection of files and/or audio tracks, I don't know of any that'll do the same with a disc image. Personally I wouldn't risk trying such a thing with what is ostensibly read-only storage.

Doesn't Puppy allow the use of USB storage to the same purpose?
