OP if your teenage son is in AGONY after doing this, I would take him to the doctors as there is obviously a serious problem with his shoulder. Then I would sue the school.

Or, you could join the real world, and stop making excuses for your misbehaving kid, take ownership of the situation and behave like an adult!! When parents make excuses for their teenagers behaving badly, what kind of signal do you suppose it gives to their kids???
The opposite of what you know...is also true

My schoolteacher would make our class stand and hold our arms straight up in the air (not even resting them on our heads) for about 15-20 minutes (this was about 10 years ago, it was a generally accepted practice and the school was not in the UK). Yes it made the arms ache for a short while afterwards but it certainly did not cause lasting 'agony'.

If he is still in serious pain this evening I really suggest he should see a doctor as that is not normal. There is of course the possibility that he is feeling sorry for himself and exaggerating his symptoms a little bit, but you obviously will know whether he tends to pull stunts like that!

Are teachers ALWAYS right? seems to me that judging from the posts on here - they think they are.
apparently the kids are always in the wrong and liars as well - I would think that the teachers would be disgusted at anyone using the 'hands on heads' methods - I am wrong again! not ONE teacher has said they think its wrong - and they KNOW it is!
  • We had chalk, board rubbers or whatever was available thrown at us. One teacher used to regularly hit kids with the register. Then there was the cane, the strap and one that really hurt me, the sports shoe mistakenly described as the slipper.

We would get hit on the knuckles with a ruler, slapped round the head with a book, back of the legs smacked and generally shouted at and quite often humiliated. It didn't do us any harm.

No teachers aren't always right and children aren't always in the wrong or are liars as well.

What everyone has said to the OP is before she makes an idiot of herself she establishes the truth - and that includes finding out what caused the teacher to carry out such a punishment and then decide if it was warranted.

So what would you do to establish discipline in schools if putting hands on heads is deemed to be torture? No wonder discipline in schools is at all time low if the teachers can't even hand out this 'punishment'

I don't think many of the responders to this question are actually teachers.

It would seem that many ordinary, sensible parents understand that their children are sometimes horrors at school, that a bit of discipline might actually do them some good, and that not every word that comes from their mouth is a representation of the truth!

    How refreshing.

And many parents don't realise that butter may actually melt in their offspring's mouths as well.

There was a programme a few months back where children's behaviour was secretly filmed (obviously with their parents permission) in school and the film was subsequently shown to the parents.....wow did they have a wake up call.

Obviously the film made the point to the parents that no amount of talking to could have done.

OP your child ought to think himself lucky. When i was at school we had to endless pages of lines as punishment. Yes it did make our arms/hands ache but the class thought twice before playing up.

I remember confronting my eldest sons teacher at high school when my son convinced me she was picking on him. I went in all guns blazing, wanting to have it out with her and then i heard her version..... The version my son hadnt cared to share with me. i vowed never again.

Never again did i take his word as gospel. :o

My youngest son had a problem with his tutor a few years ago. 'She just doesnt like me' he moaned.

"Well its up to you to get her to like you" i told him.
"The next few years depend on it".

They get on really well now. My son learned to it was easier to stop winding her up.
