Basically I stopped being a wreckless spender! I did lots of small things I've ebayed, carbooted, cut up credit cards, saved pennies, took on some tutoring, cut back on luxuries. Though the biggest things were stopping being over generous - I spent a fortune on pressies for people at xmas etc, as well as doing survey sites to earn vouchers, buying through quidco but making sure I paid more than minimum credit card payments even if just £5 more.

  • Thanks for that its just interesting to know.

So in a year you have not only NOT increased the debt you have paid a sizeable chunk off it! Sounds good to me.

Just worked out that I have reduced my debt by £7839.91 in my first year as MSE. :j

Also realised that with my next CC payment my nationwide card will be under £10,000 which is the first in a very long time!

My aim in year 2 is to clear off £10,000 so fingers crossed.

Yeah for me who still lives with my parents it was only small things that could make a difference as I've not utility bills that I could cut down on to save or big buys through quidco like house insurance. 2 of my loans end this year, one in July one in November, that will help me begin to cut bigger chunks off my CCs.

  • Well done thats really amazing.

I've just had a quick look through your diary and it sounds like some debts are ending this year so I guess that frees up money to put towards them high interest rates and also the more money you clear the more likely you are to be accepted for a 0% or a LOB CC which will be a major break through as your monthly payments would not be swallowed up by interest so would make total debt come down faster.

    Well done again x

Edited to say sorry I had not seen your above post when I wrote this.

Thanks being able to reduce the interest will be a major help. I want to keep number of searches on my file down so am waiting until those loans are settled before seeking out a new card.

  • Yes sounds like a good idea.

You started in the 40s, now in the 30s and it won't be long until you are in the 20s and I can imagine that will be another massive psychological boost.

    Good luck with the interviews
