    Hi everyone I'm new!
I have also seen the advert for the car advertised on gumtree, luckily I have not fallen for it as it definitely seemed too good to be true and alarm bells started to ring, all I have done is exchanged a few emailed with "marvin" he claimed to be in Germany at work and was willing to fly ver to the uk to meet me as the car was in Plymouth yet advertised in Northumberland on the gumtree advert, no doubt the next email will be the same as the above poster with rubbish of transferring money to western unions and so on.

I only found this was definitely a scam after googling his email address and it brought up this website (which I have used before) please please stay away from this email address and I'd also advise staying away from gumtree if they allow such things to happen its disgusting!

I shall report him to gumtree and will be sending him an email telling him how's he's all over the net as a scam and a few of my personal thoughts! It's a shame as there's a lot of nice people out there that are too trusting and regard other people to be as honest and genuine as they are.
    It's a sick world!
Pay a bit extra at your local dealer but at least you'd have peace of mind :).
Hope all those victims manage to get sorted, get in touch with "don't get done, get Dom" I'm sure he would sort it!
  • Sorry about silly spelling mistakes as I'm using my iPhone and the predictive text is sometimes too predictive! Haha
  • Well well well.... It didn't take long I have received the same email asking me to transfer money to the western union, I shall post a copy of the email below, shall I report this to the police? Or the action fraud company mentioned previously?
    Here's the email:
    Hello,

Just spoke to my wife and we can arrive in Newcastle on Friday evening so we can have our meeting on Saturday at noon if this works for
    you.
Few days ago a person told me that he is very interested to buy the car and i need to fly to UK to make the transaction as soon as I can .I came to Plymouth next day because I trusted his word, but when I arrived I called him and he never answered me again. It's not about the money for the plane tickets but i lost 2 working days for nothing.
The time it's very precious for me.I am a genuine person and he disappointed me.
I just want to know if you really intend to buy the car because for this time I will fly to UK only if i have an insurance. I just want to see that you are a serious person and will be no problem if you don't want to buy the car.I need to be sure that you will be there.I spoke with my wife about this and we have a proposal for you. If you accept our proposal, we can come to the meeting as we agreed.

I need astrong reason to come to UK and the best way it's to transfer £2800 ON YOUR NAME via Western Union. You have to find a Western Union office near you and ask a relative or a friend to send the money to your name to Newcastle. Your friend or relative will go with your cash at w.u. and send the money (he/she will be the sender name) to your name so you will be receiver of the money. When the transfer it's made you have to send a scanned copy of the W.U. receipt. In this way I will be sure that I have a serious buyer with cash money available.
If you decide to buy the car after you will test it we will go to Western Union and you will pick up your money and pay me cash .
I will help you with the documents.
So as you can see I am not asking you to send money to me . You will be the receiver of the money and ONLY you can pick the money from Western Union only in Newcastle/UK .

Please understand that I am not asking for an advance payment, the only one who can pick up the money from Newcastle is you.I do not have access to your money, I just want to see you have the money so i don't fly from Germany for nothing.
This transfer will cost you about £50. As soon as we meet I will pay you back this money. It doesn't matter if you will decide to buy the car or not. This way you have nothing to lose.
    !
We hope you understand our message and also we don't want to seem rude but it's a long way for a blind date. Please inform us about your decision.
    Thank you!

    Claireg,

Go to the 419eater website. They deal with these parasites all the time.

They can get them running around in circles.

You used to be able to get a copy of an incorrect Western Union receipt.

You send a copy of this to the scammers and they end up tying themselves in knots trying to get you to correct any errors so they can get your hard earned money

Some of the antics the 419 eaters get up to are hilarious.

The police won't be interested. Just post the email address here so anyone googling it will find it.

  • I'll give 419eaters a go sounds like fun! I've reported it to the phishing department if the London metropolitan police as advised by the fraud action helpline/website posted on here.

    The email address marvinjames2211@hotmail.com

Shame I missed this being posted up when it first appeared as I could have got it shut down within 24 hours.

Those who have been a victim of this please visit http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/index.php where there are people who can offer support etc. The bonus of this is that the guys at 419eater will pick it up and keep these guys busy chasing imaginary money. But please dont use any personal emails to contact these guys especially those who have already been scammed as these are dangerous people, as already stated this is organised crime.

The account that the money was transfered to is probably an innocent victim of a different type of scam where they are laundering money. But if you want something to be done there are details on 419eater here http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=57 of what to do with those details to get it investigated.

Some of these websites are quite sophisticated but with a little bit of caution and knowledge are easily identifiable.
  • HI this is the latest development. They also operate in Spain under this name:

I wished I could have this Adriano Roseti infront of me...
I think someone local should sue Barclays for allowing fake companies to open bank accounts to commit fraud. As a Barclays user, I am going to call my branch immediately.

    I can't from Spain.
    Thanks and good luck!
