Nut and marmite rice
Fry some marmite in butter or marg (yes the marmite!). Add some nuts (walnuts are fine) and fry for a further minute or two on a lowish heat. This will coat the nuts with marmite. Add rice and some herbs etc. (works well with thyme and black pepper). Mix well. Serve. Goes well with a moist vegetable dish.

There is a recipe here. http://busycooks.about.com/od/homemademixes/r/toastsesamemix.htm
Not the one I've used, but don't have that to hand at the moment. I tend to make it with hazelnuts, but my mother has made it with walnuts. Makes something nice to put on sandwiches with a bit of butter or marg.0 -
I have used them in stuffed aubergines (could stuff other things with this). Carve out the inside of the aubergine, and cook it in olive oil with mushrooms, courgettes and some tomatoes, tinned will do. Add chopped walnts and olives if you like them. Pour into the hollowed out aubergines, sprinkle cheese and fresh breadcrumbs on top, bake in oven until sizzling and brown on top. Serve with salad.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

neighbour was giving a load away last year, just bunged in a jar and forgot about them.
don't like nuts too much but thought i could do something with them to give to friends!
question is, will they still be ok for eating and is there anything i can make with them?0 -
Can confirm that they will be fine to eat Chimera, I just eat them out of my hand or chop to put in cakes

If they look and smell fine, they are probably ok - taste one to check they aren't stale. I would have expected the meat to dry out and go brittle by now, but if they aren't then they are probably ok to eat.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

They should be fine, but just taste one. Believe me rancid nuts are something you couldn't possibly miss :rotfl: Cakes or biscuits made with walnuts would be lovely, or how about making a sort of walnut brittle? That would be a bit different. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

Crack them, and as Churchie says, you'll soon know if they're off

I can`t remember ever even seeing a walnut tree in my life! But some friends from England who visit their holiday croft up here have handed me a huge bag of walnuts in their shells from their own trees.
I don`t want to sit munching them the next day or two...just been to the dentist!
Can anyone tell me please, how to preserve them in some way? If I shell them, can they be frozen?"Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -
I don't know how to preserve them I'm afraid, but if you fancy making a coffee and walnut cake and sending it my way it would be gratefully receivedSo, there are these boys,

I must sound daft, not knowing what to do, but honestly, the only walnuts I`ve ever seen before came ready wrapped and from a shop
