£15 OP made from VO survey voucher.

Managed to get the extended drop blinds I needed from local Dun£lm store. Had to take cost from savings. Also needed new glasses which came from savings. I'm justifying it by knowing I'm overpaying £300 from our monthly income. I'm starting to think this is too high and may need to look at it. Although they are one-off costs, and not in the monthly budget.

We've got builders in at the minute fixing the roof and renewing the guttering. Should be around £1300 - again from savings! But it needs doing.

    Payday today:j

But we have decided to take a backwards step with the MFW. We have decided that it's all very well being mortgage free at 50 but not at the expense of treating the girls. We are now redirecting the usual £300 OP to an offset account with a view to saving to go to Florida next year or the year after.

We are not giving up on wanting to be MF, but taking a year out. We may be able to make it up later, we may be 51. Whichever. But by then our girls will be adults and it'll be too late.

The offset interest will still OP along with any extras I can earn from surveys etc.

So I have moved £500 to holiday pot, £75 to xmas pot & £14.75 to car tax pot.

We are not having a family holiday this year, the girls have scout and school trips, we had a great holiday last year and hopefully an amazing one next year.

Eldest daughter is off to Germany today on an exchange programme to stay with the girl who came to us 18months ago. She's so excited - I hope she has a good time, missing her already!

Just wanted to say, that I've read your diary today, and really enjoyed it.

It's a balancing act, wanting to clear the mortgage and being able to live now in the moment, but I think you've got it right.

It's important to have experiences now, because you never know what's around the corner

We've been mortgage free for a while now, and are working towards early retirement, but we have always done fun things along the way.

I think that sometimes people get so caught up with clearing the mortgage etc, they forget to spend on fun, and when the mortgage is finally clear, they still can't spend on themselves, because they've got out of the habit and it makes them feel guilty.

I think you are doing really well :)

Thanks Goldiegirl, this sums it up exactly. My girls are getting older and I really want to enjoy spending time with them and give them some amazing memories.

I really appreciate you taking the time to read my diary and post your own experience. Thank you.

I've just made a £5 OP from survey earnings. It'll go down slowly!
