I find options really helpful too - but if I feel I need a chocolate taste to eat then I mix Options powder with low fat yoghurt or fromage frais to make a mousse.:j

    Me again.

I felt inspired to readmore of the chocolate busters book after getting it out yesterday (& dusting it) I had been driving myself crazy all evening "needing" chocolate, read a bit of this book, wow what an explanation on how your bodygets addicted to the white sugar, why we crave it so much, I ended up feeling very smug & having a fruit tea instead!

Up to page 85 so far, can till hear the Twirls chatting to me though, don't seem quite so appealing - yet???

I have refused to look at this thread till now! Didn't like the title.

It's made me think about when I buy chocolate though and it's the garages when I get petrol and kiosks in supermarkets. If I don't stand next to them like that I don't buy them, it's one of those things that once you've seen them you have to have one!

Hmmmm like a good looking man Fran!!!! ;)

On the positive side, as part of a balanced diet, 100g of DARK, EXPENSIVE chocolate per day, can be beneficial due to the micronutrients: 33mg - calcium, 89mg - magnesium, 2.3mg - iron, 0.7mg - copper, 4mcg - selenium and 1.4mg - Vit E.

In addition, it has been found that 40g of chocolate contains more than 300mg of polyphenols, the antioxidants that are also found in red wine. Dark chocolate provides twice as much of this as a cup of green tea.

Apparently recent research in the BMJ, has suggested that a daily meal intake of fish/fruit/vegetables/almonds/garlic/150ml red wine/100g DARK chocolate, could cut the risk of coronary heart disease by 76%, and that the 100g dark chocolate per day could reduce blood pressure!

    BUT bear in mind, per 100g there are;
    529kcals in White Chocolate
    520kcals in Milk Chocolate
    510kcals in Dark Chocolate

Another tip for when you want chocolate but are trying not to succumb, is to cut up an apple into smallish squares and lay on a small plate. Mix one of the individual size sachets of Options with 2/3 teaspoons of hot water and mix into a runnyish paste, or add a little more water if you prefer more of a sauce than a paste. ;)

Put Options paste/sauce over apple pieces. Shut eyes...eat. :D

Not quite as good as as a chocolate bar but the sweetness of the apple combined with the Options makes for a not too bad substitute. You can always tell yourself you're eating healthily because of the apple, lol.

aliasojo - you might be better off melting the expensive dark chocolate and dipping the apple in it, as I think Options contains Hydrogenated Vegetable Fat (acts as saturated fat), because I stopped buying it due to that. OR you could perhaps do it with carob powder instead?

I once had a summer job working in a chocolate factory - a dream job you would think, but after a few weeks there the sheer dirtiness of the place (I won't discuss horror stories here as I wouldn't want to upset any of you dedicated chocoholics!) and the constant smell of pure chocolate had put me off for life!

Has anyone suggested not buying it?

I completely agree with Sarahsaver though; now I've stopped buying chocolate regularly it suddenly seems very expensive...
  • i used to be a massive chocaholic-which got in the way of trying to lose weight!! so i tried a trick my mum used to do......Step 1. buy loads of chocolate(!) Step 2.melt ALL OF IT! (no nibbles!) step 3. pour all of it into ice cube trays and freeze it! Step 4. everytime you crave chocolate take out one choccy ice cube and eat that!..coz it takes long to melt the taste will last longer and that small amount will hold the craving! Sounds bizarrre but really does work! plus its quite nice in the summer!
    hope this helps!
