We eat too much chocolate

We are piggish when it comes to chocolate. Every day, we have chocolate in some form or other. We are weak willed when it comes to the 9 letter word and we know we shouldn't do it. Is will power the only way? Has anyone overcome a choccy addiction and is prepared to offer the benefit of their experience/advice?
I cannot express enough the fact that I know we are just plain greedy when it comes to chocolate and I know that there are terrible things happening in the world, but this question is just about weaning us off chocolate.
Any help gratefully received.

Try substituting fruit instead. I find that if I freeze small seedless grapes they take my mind off the C word.

The only way i can avoid the temptation is not to have any in the house. If i want some, i have to go to the shop and buy it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi Ceegee
This has cut out a LOT of choccy in our house, I explained to the kids about the dangers of consuming hydrongenated vegetable oil/fat, and we all agreed to ban it from our nutrition intake. Hydrongenated oil/fat is uneccesarily included in a LOT of confectionary.............................so there was a massive immediate cut back in what they could consume.
Also once we embarked on a much more healthier lifestyle and gobbled more fruit/veg and switched to a predominant organic/vegetarian diet..........................their cravings dropped off a bit more.
So I'm now at the stage of educating them about the fact that expensive dark chocolate is better than all the other sugar/saturated fat laden products................................course the rest of the flipping family aren't being educated!!!! Although my youngest DID say this year that he'd prefer money rather than loads of chocolate eggs........................and that's coming from the WORSE choccoholic in our house!!!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Good points about fruit and lifestyle changes. Perhaps if we embarked on a totally new food regime, rather than just banning chocolate, it might do the trick. It's interesting to know that the cravings might just fade away after a time. Right then, after the Easter eggs have gone we'll try a complete change of eating habits. Might lose a bit of the old blubber, too!:snow_grin"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow........":snow_grin0

It is known that chocolate is addictive. When I was a teenager, I worked in a bakers/confectioners on a saturday and believe me, my choccy intake rocketed. After one particularly bad weekend (believe me, you don't want to know what I consumed) I almost had to go cold turkey. Even now, it chocs are there, I eat them - don't tell DS2 I ate the rest of his egg last week - I have replaced it.
Apparently, a common reason for choccy craving is a shortage of magnesium. Much of what we eat has had its magnesium eroded due to the cooking process or the fact that it's not there as the soil is now deficient in it. What you eat and when can also affect how you absorb magnesium. If you all have a serious problem with it, maybe you ought to consult your GP about this. Try googling magnesium deficiency or chocolate cravings and read up about it though. Worth a look.
Right, off to eat some.........fruit.0 -
YES!!!!! I always knew I wasn't really a greedy git when it came to chocolate! It's not my fault.......I'm simply..........magnesium deficient!
