Inconsiderate Caravaners
Comments

Caravaners, on the other hand, are people who choose to spend their money (lots of it) on huge boxes on wheels,
Not so old chap. My current caravan cost me £400 a couple of years back and I've just bought another for £625. And it's so much more comfortable than camping in a tent. Very MSE0 -

We paid just over a grand for ours about years ago, it was relatively new at the time but was an insurance write off and repaired. We can't get insurance on it unless we have a report done, which frankly will cost more than the van was worth, but if it fell apart tomorrow it's earned it's keep.
Planning on heading off in it again over the summer.0 -
well, when you lot come across me on the roads, feel free to overtake and pull back in front....I invariably leave a lot more than the 2-second minimum space twixt me and the vehicle in front.......even at 60 or whatever. leaves me plenty of time to respond to changes up ahead, without resorting to any kind of dramatic action...like, braking, for example?
If I ever overtake you lot, you will find that, when I pull back in, I attempt to leave the maximum distance between my backside and your front end....at least, until things settle down....by which time I've moved out and onwards again.
If I don't see the space, I don't go.
But if I'm at or close to the speed limit, and you lot want to overtake [flouting the Law as you do....?], I would feel it totally inconsiderate of you to try and compel me to slow down...thereby extending my journey time, just because you want to get in front.
[I admit, my rear end is likely to compel many drivers to undergo counselling]....
The concensus so far seems [to me] to be that drivers expect the situation on the roads to be one of 'team-work' so that you can all arrive safely.
Well, I don't rely on 'team-work' to achieve that.....neither should anybody.
But I'm not averse to making others 'sweat' a little....if they've made a mess of things....us oldies can be mighty slow to catch on sometimes......did I say that? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Problem is, if someone speeds up on me and closes off my planned safe gap, my mood will go from pleasant and joyful to "this f**ker is trying to kill me" and at this point i'd happily perform a PIT manoeuvre on them (in self defence), if they persisted in trying to murder me.... Doesn't matter what your driving and no two ways about it, if that happens your going into the ditch.... Hard.
Why? You've left a 2 second gap which at 50MPH is 146ft. A car is typically 15ft-18ft long. Are you saying that if someone overtook you and pulled into that, you'd think they were trying to kill you and PITT them?
Or are you admitting you drive up the backside of the car in front?
What a !!!!!!. And so are you mikey72 for saying you drive like him and would do the same.0 -

Coming from a !!!!!! who admits they happily overtake brainlessly, with no gap to pull back in, then expect one to appear when they indicate to show they they need one, I put you firmly with strider on your overtaking skills. You both need other road users to save your skin because of your lack of driving skills. One day you may find we won't be able to bail you out, then not only will you fubar yourself, you'll affect me if I'm not careful.0 -

That's why you should've gone through Loddiswell / Cali Cross. If you had you would've met me with a flatbed trailer instead of the 'van and I'm always happy to give people passing ops*

I suggest re-reading what's been said........ I said if somebody tried to stop me overtaking and the situation got dangerous (ie oncoming truck), I would happily introduce them to the nearest ditch.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I don't often get involved with threads like this but I do drive the same same road as the OP. Not too many overtaking opportunities on that road. I'm always happy to overtake, on that road, in my wife's car, but my car is a big and slow 4x4. You do need something quicker than you average car to overtake, safely, on that road.
I think some of you that caravan into areas on holiday and spend "x" amount of money need to remember that local people need to get to work, go to the dentist etc, and they also use the roads to get there. Wether you mean it or not, you are in the way. As an aside, bringing money into the local economy is largely carp, most bring their own food and loo roll.
The problem, as I see it, these days, is that most drivers and those that tow caravans, just don't understand how cars work. As a consequence they don't understand what their car or tow vehicle is capable of. Similarly they tend to have an over inflated sense of their own abilities behind the wheel.
I don't have issues with caravaners, per se, but they tend to be the worst, in this area.0 -

So not only have you got a big box behind your car once a year, you have a dangerous cheap box that has aged structure and brakes, and your neighbours have to put up with a box outside their houses all year, because you can hardly be towing two.
The only dangerous thing to come from that statement is the bucket-load of assumptions being made.
It is to be hoped that you don't apply the same levels of assumption to your driving?
For assumption is the biggest danger out on there on the roads.....not elderly caravans! No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
