Remember that the HC says to give way to overtaking vehicles?
Its quite simple - do what the Police do. Overtake and when you need to pull back in, sit at the side of a gap with your left winky on and wait for the gap to open up.
Works a charm as long as you give yourself enough time so you're not having to barge back in before a head on.
Classic. It's well below "Before overtaking you should make sure there is a suitable gap in front of the road user you plan to overtake" If you've a blue flashing light with your blinky you've got a chance. Otherwise you can brake as heavily as you need to to get to the back, and miss the head on if it's me on your left.0 -

Doesn't work at all, because people see you as a "queue jumper" (this also why people often don't overtake slower vehicles).
They'll inevitably speed up as you overtake, then sit behind you flashing their lights and giving you the beans.
Problem is, if someone speeds up on me and closes off my planned safe gap, my mood will go from pleasant and joyful to "this f**ker is trying to kill me" and at this point i'd happily perform a PIT manoeuvre on them (in self defence), if they persisted in trying to murder me.... Doesn't matter what your driving and no two ways about it, if that happens your going into the ditch.... Hard.
The roads are not a place to be taking your ego, if someone wants to overtake, that's their choice, let them do it. I say to anyone, read the highway code and put your ego back in it's box.
To address a point made a page or so back....... I will traffic hop, overtaking one or two cars and pulling back in, because it's safer to overtake 3 cars and a truck individually, than it is to overtake 3 cars and a truck all in one go. It's ALWAYS worth overtaking when safe to do so.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You think we wouldn't be ready for it? If there is an idiot next to me trying to pull in, if he's not going to make it, if he tries to pull in front, he's going to be spinning into the ditch. If he really feels the need to try to pull in behind and try to spin me on the way for some strange reason, he'll find I'm ready, and he'll still be on the wrong side on the white line when the oncoming happens. And at that stage, I will be trying to kill you if required as well. You put youself there, Darwin had a good point. As the highway code says, you can overtake when it's safe, I'm not your mum, don't expect me to make it safe for you. (As you appear to have given it thought, if I don't let you in, how do you plan to PIT me from in front?)0 -
Mikey, would you really block someone off like that and cause a crash?Would passengers inside make any difference or do you have a strictly "just try and kill the driver who did something I don't like" attitude?0

No, not really. It's just not a good habit to rely on other motorists to allow for your !!!! ups. If the gap wasn't big enough, if the car in front had to brake, if I simply was swapping the cd over, or I may not even be looking, then you're not going to get the space. Then if Stiders policy is to try to force me off the road, I'm saying I'm ready for any aggresive driver (if I'm looking). Then again it may just be a version of me that does mean it.0 -

Who's aggressive? The guy innocently overtaking (which is still perfectly legal) or the !!!!! speeding up to stop him? Aggression be gets aggression and when someone is trying to kill you, you don't sit around being nice.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

For once we agree. You messed up the overtake, if you try to force me off the road to get back in if you won't fit, if it's you or me, it's you. I'm quite calm till you try to kill me.0 -

Not if your speeding up to stop people overtaking you (as you suggested toward earlier).
I don't see the issue, if there's room, just let them pass.... Why turn a normal/safe manoeuvre into a dangerous one? Why endanger their life, the lives of the people coming the other way (which could well be a young family) AND your own life, just to protect your fragile ego?
The roads would be a much safer place if people just chilled the f**k out.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I've never seen the point in caravans, surely if you add up the cost of buying the damn thing, the extra fuel required to tow it to your destination and the fees the camp site charge you'd be able to afford a nice comfy little B&B?0
