Hiya all. I'm looking for a new home and am visiting a new site in Warton Preston where Taylor Wimpey are going to build. We got an invite for an open evening and are quite excited. Although a bit worried about some of the stories we have read today about homes being pulled down and one built over a mine shaft. Does anyone know if Taylor Wimpey are a reputable company? We have two children so need a good home which will rise in value, as we would one day want to help kids out to buy they're own homes. I like the thought of a new build because everything is new, but don't want to buy a problem home, got enough stuff to think about with a family and work. Any help from people who have bought a Taylor Wimpey home or just anyone with knowledge of new builds and any pitfalls. Thanks alot. xx

@TaylorWimpey To all those people looking to buy an apartment from TW.... These are the issues iv had and still having.... I brought my apartment Four years ago, for the first 18 months I had a problem with the plumbing and noise transference, TW eventually sorted out the issue with the plumbing after I made complaint after complaint to TW and the NHBC, a representative came to my apartment from TW and said he could not hear the banging every time the above two floors used the shower and sink, so I got the NHBC out and they eventually agreed there was a problem , I was near to a nervous breakdown at this point, they made numerous holes throughout my apartment, and decided that the soil pipe was too small, they moved me out of my apartment and fixed the problem, it took nearly 18 months for TW to accept there was an issue, the noise was so loud it woke me up, they also found that the lagging around the shower an inside the wall structure was missing, please remember this was checked off as done once the apartment was passed as completed.
Beside the above problem there was an still is a noise transference issue, I hear footsteps, talking, tv, toilet activity, bedroom activity, telephone conversations, all kitchen cupboards, all doors basically everything above that is done I hear, I put complaint after complaint to TW and again once NHBC was involved they agreed to do sound checks, unbelievably it passed so TW have washed there hands with my problem, there are a few others on my complex with the same issues, My advice bad investment

I have heard rumours that Wimpey makes the finest looking houses. They look so smart and "executive". A Wimpey home and a 3-series BMW - that's when you know you've "made it".

That is definitely the funniest thing I have read today. A BMW and a wimpey home, wow, what more could the average joe aspire to? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have seen people in ex council properties with those cars and they do think they have arrived somehow. Perhaps they have arrived at their midlife crisis and crashed!!!! :p

When buying the bestest house in the world, 'taylor wimpey', you can also choose a poor man's sports car with open top.

You really know you have arrived at a mentality lower than an ants b*%^ocks!

Don't forget a palm tree and cactus garden, they look amazing in winter, each with a large white fluffy hat. After winter , even better...dead! :rotfl:
  • We have bought a Taylor and wimpey house and just moved in. yes we had a few teething. problems but i understand homes are built by humans and they have all been addressed and rectified within 3months. i knew things needed to be ordered and people booked in and they accommodated all work around my working hours which was only one afternoon a week! Not only was the work complete we received a lovely bottle of wine and some additional extras free of charge! We love our new home and the service we have received has been fantastic. like everything i guess it depends on who you speak to and how you approach the situation.

we use to live in an ex-council end terrace and i grew up in a privately owned semi and have to say experienced noise problems in both! that is why we saved for longer and went without luxuries for a few yrs to buy detached. i think unless yr detached you will hear everything! You get what you pay for unfortunately and that's the any of the world.

Some of comments on here appear to be based on probablys and upset feelings not all factual. we have affordable housing next to ours on the main part of estate they are built exactly the same as ours some are bungalows some detached 3 beds some apartments. They all appear happy in their homes though there is some hostility towards those who do not live in affordable housing not sure if its just bad luck a chip on their shoulder. We smile every day and say hi and barely get a smile back but that happens where ever you live!

We bought of plan and id recommend it. we got a great plot, fantastic parking and chose all our own style for tiles and units etc. we did however ask to see our style of house first and visited another site which allowed us to go in and see what we were getting. id say that was vital as we viewed several styles which was not yet available to wall around at the site we wanted and it totally decided on the house we wanted. we also checked where access to pipes were and street light positions as i didnt want a street lamp outside our bedroom window.

Id RECCOMMEND a Taylor and wimpey house and i LOVE mine and everyone we've met on our street have also been happy with their purchase.

We have reserved a Taylor Wimpey home and are due to exchange in a couple of weeks. It's a four-bed detached in a location we really like. What swung the deal was they were willing to negotiate. £240K was the list price, down from £250K. As we didn't have to part-exchange, we got them down to £220K including floor tiles in the kitchen, utility and downstairs toilet.

I felt good until I read some of the horror stories here. We're close to (but not at) the point of no return. I have recently had a run of bad experiences with several firms (for example the AA should stop trying to be an insurance company) and I'm not sure I can deal with an oppressive mortgage on a shoddily built house. Not sure what to do now, confidence is severely shaken.
  • I felt like that when I read about Taylor Wimpey on this forum but I'm still going ahead. I feel good about the house, development and deal. I've had an experienced builder give me his opinion on the building site etc. all good so far.

It depends what type of housing they're building. The words "affordable housing" makes me shudder, as it basically means Timber Frame construction, which I can only think of as shoddy, and wouldn't touch with a bargepole. QUOTE]

I used to think the same. Then I visited Hollywood Boulevard in the USA where all the multi millionaires and celebrity's live. I saw some of the mansions going up, and unbelieveably they were timber frame construction. I was pretty astounded!

I have a TW house. It has had problems but TW have fixed them. Every house has a snag, I'd be amazed if it didn't. But the aftercare was good and everything was resolved pretty quickly.
