DO NOT BUY WIMPEY HOMES.They are terrible quality and the aftercare and customer service is worse than there build quality.

Cheers for that. after speaking to several people online who have bought expensive homes from taylor wimpey, it sounds like there is no customer care at all. i also heard that affordable homes are awful, and have been advised to buy something which has been built and can be inspected. we might buy an older home and have a survey. it is just hard when you don't have that much money and have to fork out for extras, but then it does seem to cost more to buy brand new. i just can't iunderstand why they don't sell the affordable homes first? i would have thought that is the reason for these developers getting land in the first place! those with tighter budgets come last and those who pay big money will only be looking over their back fence at those with the affordable homes anyway. why not just build a variety of homes soeveryone knows what they are ggetting. i am not waiting 2-3 years for them to build, in that time they might not be that affordable anyway. stupid new home builders! wish we had not even considered this. we wasted time and now have to start looking at houses we didn't bother looking at beofr because we feklt sure we would get a new home. justy so angry about it really. but glad in one way if they are rubbish homes.

You also need to be aware of the terrible soundproofing,we had a sound test done as we can hear the neighbours using the loo and i mean hear what they are doing. We can hear chopping food, walkin, talking, sex, cupboard doors closing etc, etc. The company doing the sound test said the Government was lowering the legal limit for soundproofing to make affordable homes cheaper.BEWARE WIMPEY HOMES.

That sounds awful!!! we can't affrod deteched so have to be attached, we don't want to be heard doing everything. :rotfl:some things are very private. we just looked at taylor wimpey site plan and they do show affordable housing, but no prices or spec. how would anyone know what they are buying into when they market 4 detached type of homes and say they are going to be 3 or 4 more type of homes. they might change their minds about some and build more deatched ro more affordable?
if you look at the developemnt layout you can see there is no mention of the homes us poor folk were promised on there homes for sale. just a small mention on the development layout. why don't they know when they will be built or for how much? i get the feeling they were being vague about some details, but they knew what was going to be there and how much. oh it has annoyed me, i should think myself lucky i supose. thansk again.

    Hi Jenna78,

A developer will always tend to build affordable homes last as it would put off potential buyers of their more expensive ones otherwise. A new build development is all about selling a life style and if some of the homes are detached and considered upmarket, having affordable homes close by will not fit in with that image.

I'm sure the developer would rather not build any affordable homes at all. They are forced to by the planning authorities in order to develop the land. It's all part of an effort to promote sustainable communities.

My interpretation of the term "Affordable Housing" is that it's used as a modern, prim way to refer to council housing. The difference now is that they do sell a few as well. I would imagine that these sort of properties would be the very worst new build you could ever hope to buy. They will probably be poorly built and on the worst plots on the estate. More importantly, there is always the risk of a "problem family" being housed next door. I know this could happen anywhere in any circumstances but you don't want to take any more risks than you have to. Even if it wouldn't bother you, it will bother potential buyers when you come to sell it in the future.

Find an older property (pre 2000) which will be a far better investment for you on an estate that is established so you know what you're getting into.

We come from a council estate background, so wanted a differnt type of home, more modern. we have seen that there are ex council homes on the same street as this new development, but don't want that style. we are now looking at modern homes nearby, but we might need to pay more for a better property and don't know if we can afford it. i wish we could afford more than 1 or 2 bedroom because there seems to be some really nice properties in the area which we could move straight into without having to do much. I don't even know if we could have afforded the taylow wimpey affordable home, they might not have been that cheap. oh well thank you for your help, we will keep looking and hope for the best. taylor wimpey will probably annoy every home owner on their new estate when they build affordable housing and it might come back to haunt them for keeping it a bit of a secret.

They look great! we might even be able to stretch to a 3 bed there. thank you for that, we'll have a look this weekend. we did hope to be near lytham for schools, hence looking at warton, but the drive isn't too far from ashton on ribble. we saw a couple of lovely looking house on moorhead gardens i think its called, which is next to taylor wimpe, just not sure if we can stretch to 3 bed in warton yet, so will look at preston. i can walk to the town centre from there, now that could be deadly!!! :rotfl:we will have to look at buses from preston to lytham to see if it is doable for kids and schooling. thank you to everyone for the helpful advise.

A builder and site manager told me Ben Bailey homes are the best and they didn't work for them.

I looked but couldn't see any of their homes in Warton or Preston. We had a quick look at the other development in preston yesterday from the outside, not too sure about the area. we'll look at slightly older houses now i think. we are going to see a couple in warton over the weekend, and one in lytham st annes. we are still thinking about taylor wimpey in warton, if they release the prices for affordable homes. my partner thinks they will be over priced because they seem expensive compared to older properties. it is a shame because the meadow view land looks to be in a nice place, some properties will face fields, although my guess is the cheap homes won't! we will keep looking and might ask local people what they think. thanks again. :)
