Recipes for the two cakes pretty please. They look wonderful.
The top 2 cakes are FAR from MSE though.

The top one is a boozy coffee n baileys cake (My own concoction!) Coffee sponge layers, cream is whipped with icing sugar and baileys for the filling, the frosting top is made with icing sugar, butter, coffee and baileys!!

The middle one is a very fiddly, orange and poppy seed cake. The difference with this one is the texture. The poppy seeds make it really unique in texture and it is made with only sunflower oil. No marg or butter at all! This makes it really moist but not oily.
The filling is my own orange curd (when I used to keep hens and had a glut of eggs to use up!) It takes hours to make though so I rarely make it! The orange slices for the presentation have to be simmered in a home made syrup for aaaaages, etc.

    I prefer micropuds now!

On the subject of micropuds, my folks presented me with a microwave yesterday when I went to get dinner prepared for today!!

They said they knew that i would accept no money so bought me a microwave instead and they wrote 'To ...(JJ)......., with love' on the box so I could not return it to reimburse them!!

I will now go wild with experimentation on the micro puts. I have an idea for a sponge using peanut butter n bananas!!!!!! I kid you not. I am sure it will work well. Maybe a banana sponge and butter cream using smooth peanut butter to top/layer it?? Something like that?

Could call it a cool name like 'Crazy cake' (...'nuts' and 'bananas' :D) or 'Nuts n 'nanas cake'!!!!!

    Will try and see!

It is VERY boozy. It is a 'naughty but nice' kinda thing!

I only make it on VERY special occasions when we have 'proper' dinner guests!

Afternoon all, just logged on to get the recipe for Florenceems syrup cake, i'm going to make it as a loaf version though. Boys have requested brownies and i am also going to make a batch of twinks hobknobs & chocolate chip cookies.
I have a shoulder of pork in the slowcooker in a very freestyle bbq sauce, so i think i may make a batch of rolls to serve with it.
I popped into home bargains before with oh. They had stardrops in 3 varietys so oh bought me all 3. i have a normal, a pine disinfectant one & one with ammonia. Not taken out of budget as oh paid.

    Hi All

    Hope everybody is well.

Another NSD - grabbed some pork from the freezer and making a casserole with stock, red wine (from the freezer also), onions, celery and carrots (also from the freezer bagged up from when I had too much), and a bit of cornflour to thicken it up. Not a recipe really, so hopefully it will be okay. I had to make something up because I just don't want to go to the shops at all! :o

My DD's were having lunch in Wethersoons so I went along and had a cuppa with them, 99p.

Then Tesco Express hoping Sunday afternoon would be good for YS's.....it wasn't!

But I did get a posh Finest chickeny doo-dah thing reduced to £2.35 from £5 something  which I will have for my Bank Holiday Monday meal......wanted something out of the norm but didnt want to do a proper roast just for me.

    Then spent £8.41 in Lidl.

    Had Weetabix for brekkie.

4 chips off DD's plates at lunchtime ;)

For tea I have a piece of steak, sliced up - planning on doing it with veg and chow mein sauce and rice.

    Good afternoon all.
Declaring a spend of £14.07 in Mr M yesterday. YS sausages and steak, B/E battered fish, cakes (DH), crisps and microchips. I haven't bought any McC&in microchips for ages but they're on special offer at £1 a pack, (4 boxes) and they always come in handy for a quick snack. Wanted some Y0ungs fishfingers but the shelf was empty.
If anyone wants some silicon bakeware, HB is selling some for £1.99 each. I have never seen it this cheap before. They are only in grey in our shop, probably why they are cheap.
    Welcome to our newbies.
Hugs to all who need one.

Well it sounds lovely to me! And as for not being very MSE I think it depends how you look at it. If you were to buy a slice of that in a restaurant............................you've got the whole cake for the price of one slice! Ive think you have managed to "have your cake AND eat it"! Well done!:D

Well I guess it's kind of MSE. :)
In special cakes, I usually use home made butter using YS cream.
The baileys is actually shops own label Irish cream. Usually around £4 a bottle. ;)
