cleggie, have you tried making your own granola? Fast and easy to do. I use a variation on a good food recipe with value oats and whatever stuff I happen to have.

Not sure if I should set a target this month. As little as possible. Freezer audit done with a view to making a plan. So far have bought milk, rtc bread and some super bargain half price on offer, then have price again RTC whole lamb shoulders. I have to buy cat fud though or I will be in serious trouble.

    Hi Hex.
No i haven't, as i assumed that by the time i buy the nuts and dried fruit, it would be more expensive??
I use the value oats for our flapjacks and its fine, but its the dried fruit and nuts that bothers me, cost wise.

Hi all, need HELP here pls, my mum has just given me 4 lbs of mince from the butchers as she says she cant take anymore of me complaining that the sm stuff cooks like hard brown worms my personal opinion) what do i do with it.....i was told to not freeze it raw by someone ages ago pre os days as it does something to it????? i would like to make say a quarter of it into burgers so how do i make them, also do i batch cook the rest with an onion as a base dish for spag bol, chilli, etc...any help would be appreciated i will also do a few shepards pies for freezer and a mince and onion pie, i intend REALLY bulking these out with veg so .....come on girls and boys ideas pls..........FLO if your there i NEED YOUR inspiration

I freeze mine raw - I don't know what freezing does to it, but it tastes ok, even after 4 years!!!:rotfl: If it was me I'd probably split it into 1lb portions and freeze them separately, then there's less pressure to do something with it immediately.

I haven't made burgers for ages, but I think I just fried off some onion and garlic, then mixed in the mince, and bound it together with an egg. Add some mixed herbs of your choice, form into patties and fry or grill - frying keeps it together better. You can add other veg as well if you want.

HTH! Have fun with your mince!:D

    Evening all!

NSD day for me today - I was VERY good and didn't give in to the yummy food on offer at work! :T
It's been a cold but sunny day up here.

 biscuitmad and Thriftybird - hello and welcome :)

Like Suffolk lass said, check out the first page to see how this works, and hope it works for you!

There are lots of folks here who have been doing this a lot longer than me - I'm fairly new to this as well - and they're all really helpful. If you have a question there's always someone around to help.

AnimalHouse and Kylie's DH - hope you're feeling better soon.

S-I am - That's awful! Hope you get your card replaced soon, but at least the bank has caught it before it got too bad. :(

Please can you put me down for £55.00 again for May.

I've spent £18.54 so far. £13.39 in Asda last night and £5.15 in Lidl today stocking up on the half price cheese.

Just DD and DS2 here this weekend as DH and DS1 are camping with the Scouts

We had Whitby garlic and ginger prawns for tea with long grain rice and salad (would take a pic but DH has the camera on camp ) We had sweet chilli dip and mayo on the side. Nommy.

The prawns were BOGOF at MrT - £3.49 for two packs and we ate both packs which meant we didn't need pudding! The prawns were bought with my 2nd purse which I have paid back £4 - profit for me :j

    Have a good evening everyone.

    Hey Craig.
If you are after some mince inspired recipes, you can do meatballs, minced beef wellington, pot-roast meatoaf, bolognese, lasagne, chilli con carne, and mince and onion pie.

i got all of those ideas from the Jamie O 'ministry of food' book.
