After weeding my raised beds all afternoon, I would like to sow some seeds that will produce for the kitchen.
What would be the best things for starting this late in May?
Thank you
In terms of seeds I would sow french breakfast radishes and salad leaves, I expect you are savvy about little and often or succession sowing. You could also put some onion sets in for later onions or sprouting potaotes for a late crop of new potatoes.
Don't forget the roadside sellers of seedlings - people like me whose seedlings are plentiful but a bit late. I still have small chillies, peppers, tomatoes and aubergines. Late crops then...
Also many of the nurseries, DIY sheds, and SM are starting to reduce veg seedlings. I picked up cucumber and courgettes for 39p last week. Depends where you are. I am relatively down south so everything is a bit earlier.
Also beetroot plants would be good as you can pick the baby beets or leave them in for roasting in the autumn... yum
You could put a squeeze of lemon in your water to make it a bit interesting (or we are using almost a bottle of squash a week - A$das without artifcal colours, flavours or sweeteners is £1 and lovely with chilled filter water (very weak for me!)
Best of luck

Ps did someone say you can freeze carrots if you have too many? Would you cook them first? Sorry I can't find the post that mentioned it
It may have been me! I peel and chop them, then put them on greaseproof on a baking tray in the freezer. When they are frozen, I shove them into a bag. If you don't freeze them flat though, you get a massive lump of carrot, that you can't separate!jumblejack wrote: »I'm being v practical today. I have run out of redbush tea bags. It is only myself that drinks the stuff and it's very expensive. I have got the filter water jug out, washed it out and put a new filter in this morning....
I WILL drink water,
I WILL drink water,
I WILL drink water....
Well, it could work........?
I HATE the stuff but it will keep my expensive tea drinking to a limit. It will also cut down on my soya milk consumption as I get through nearly a litre a day:eek: These purchases really push my grocery spending up as there is no way to cut back on them....
Unless I drink free filtered tap water (which is supposedly good for you)
I'm with SL on this - we drink squash or water, very weak. I can't stand tea in this weather!!Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100

Today is going to be a NSD.
I WANT to walk down to Lidl but its in a long walk in this heat if they have sold out of the bacon, so I wont bother.
I have been busy since early this morning, sorting mountains of paperwork, tidying, cleaning......now just sitting and waiting for the F1 to start.
I was too busy for breakfast (wanted to get as much done as possible before it got too hot).
So I just had Weetabix for lunch.
I have 2 HM muffins defrosting, a few LO's in the fridge and a freezer full of HM meals so will sort out tea from those options.0 -

Not long now before I attack the garden. I was busy this morning. Dinner nearly ready to dish out.
Florenceem inspired me to try a baked onion. As I was roasting pork chops in the oven, I also popped a couple of onions on and a few mushrooms for good measure (to use up the veg and to use up the oven space;)) there are also roast spuds and there are also jacket spuds which will be put in the fridge when cooled for tomorrow's dinners.
I went to B&Q on the way home to check out their veg seedlings for they have a bogof offer on plants this weekend. The prices were still:eek:
I was not prepared to pay £8 for 2 sweet pepper plants etc.
I will be going through my seed collections to see what can be sown in situ.
Can't wait to get cracking on it.
Hope everyone has a fabtastic Sunday!!!:j
Ps, I am just finishing my 4th large glass of filtered tap water.
I am setting myself a goal of no redbush tea for a WHOLE WEEK!!!!
Let's see if I succumb......:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I had a blind 1st date this morning....just a casual drink and chat....
Now if you are aged 78, why say you are 66???
It's not the age difference I object to (I am 52) just the lack of honesty.
:
:eek: What on earth did you talk about!
Have had a couple more spends, Mr M £10.38 and Mr A £11.66 which included a couple of beers for DH as I was going out.
Weather really hit and miss here today so have been baking for tomorrow's jubilee cake sale, Twinks hobnobs and brownie off the front page. Also soda bread for the kids tea.
Got to do a !id! run tomorrow so going to go slightly over but hopefully only by £20. Famous last words!
