The second leftover rice breakfast was just eaten by my youngest who wandered down stairs. It was leftover rice in a cereal bowl covered with milk and sweetened with sugar and a bit of golden syrup. I warmed it up in the microwave.
The verdict was "Nice, but I prefer rice crispies.":rotfl:

So far not too bad this week, daily call to DH to ensure he is eating from the freezer and not ordering takeaways. My lunches have been under the £3.75 incidental allowance so work are covering them, but of course I will only get that back when I claim my expenses at the end of the month. And dinners within expenses budget, the only thing I've really spent was a glass of wine yesterday oops. But when your away from home and it was sunny and warm in the evening so I sat outside the hotel and indulged. Won't have another one this week though.

Just have to make sure I don't wonder past Debenhams and find there's a sale on like I did last year. :-)

Looks a bit overcast outside here, but it may be brighter later on. Have been up bright and early, i tried to make pitta bread from scratch. It was a disaster. I normally pour the ingredients into the bread maker but i followe a different recipe this morning. It failed badly, it got to the point of no return so i binned the mix. Started again by using normal bread maker recipe. They are now rolled out ready to bake for later. Lamb kebabs for tea tonight with salad & pitta bread.

  • Hi all, 3 NSD's in a row for me! Yay! already half of what I achieved last month. I got my freezer so this saturday OH and I are going to fill it up with meats so will be a large spend then, therefore trying to hold off as much as I can until then. May not achieve a NSD today though as we're low on milk and cheese but I will not go to shops less asked to.

The casserole I made last sunday turned out amazing! It fed 4 on sunday with enough left for another meal for 3 to go in the freezer AND with spare for two pies too. We had the first pie on Monday and it was lovely though I made the pastry far to thick and didn't cook it for long enough. However, it was my first ever attempt so I am still chuffed. I cooked the second pie for longer after tasting the first one so should be even nicer. A lo piece of the first pie will be a meal for me sometime. Second pie will feed 3 (when OH works away we're only 3 in the house). So in total I got 9 portions out of the casserole and 2 different types of meals. Extremely pleased with that.

Considering baking two breads this evening but may wait until tomorrow.

Hope everyone are blessed with lovely sunshine and a great day :)

But I can see the wishing for a second freezer may not be as farfetched as I first thought...

Need to work out what I have spent so can update signature.

Got bread, muffins and crumpets from Wilkinsons at 20p each. So no bread needed for June.

Shared a Rosspa order as I wanted the tinned cheese at 5 for a pound, carrots and onions, also got sausages in lard 4 for a pound and tinned mackrel a pound so 7 pound there.

Stocked up on 99p butter, 5 pound, 13 pound so far.

    JJ's leftover rice burgers:

The experimental breakfast worked like a dream:

    photo-82.jpg?t=1337750772

I'm trying to get to the weekend without buying more cereal!

Simply break an egg into a cup, add leftover rice to form a sticky mound. Season to taste and shallow fry!

Would go great with fried mushrooms or a poached egg on top. Or simply as a addition to a meal!

    Pleased with the experiment!:j

I might fry up a batch of these and freeze them. They would make a great addition to my freezer stocks for meal standbys!

    Edit:
You only need one for breakfast! They are REALLY filling. Insanely cheap meal if you just have one topped with an egg, etc!;)
Great idea - would be a good cheap lunch or dinner with few bits added - for those times - too many days - not enough cash!

Oh dear, this month I've blown the budget. We've had two separate weekends of friends / family staying last minute which I hadn't allowed for, so have had to buy in more food to feed 6 people of a weekend instead of us two. That's what happens when you have a generous OH!!

So unfortunately I have spent £150. 37 over the past 3 weeks and I still have 9 days to go and a pretty empty fridge!
