I think its illegal to sell food in the EU with growth hormones, which is why American meat is banned, its full of the stuff. In America, their food makes them fat, not saying its not in some rubbish butchers though. If you find out different, please let me know, 'cause im with you on that, once ive got my grocery spends down to a fine art, and the last of my overdraft paid, i want to only eat free range/ organic.
No spends here for me for the last 5 days, am still on target, have about £8 left, which im amazed at, never thought i would get this close to finish line.

I just did a quick google and it seems you are right. Phew!
Thank goodness! I do worry about the stuff we are exposed to. I've only just got round to having a microwave again after many years!
    Thanks!!!!!

I did a quick google a while back, when on a diet after reading a book about growth hormones making people fat and panicked, found it was not EU. With you on microwaves too, mine has a crack inside, dont think its dangerous unless its the outer casing, but i still press it and run out of room - well you never know.

NSD yesterday and only £1 on milk today but I am taking the kids to the coast later so I might cave to an icecream each but I will feed them before I go to limit the damage.

Do you wait for it to defrost rather then microwave? Beacuse that also seems to be a great way to lose weight, like the culinary equivalent of freezing your credit cards in ice so you have to wait to make a purchse. You've got to really want the cake to be bothered to wait for it to defrost. Excellent!!! :D
Mr F gets a piece of cake out at night so when it comes to morning tea break - the cake is ready. I had a piece of cake yesterday morning so today was an apple.

    Hi guys

Just copying and pasting this from my DFD to see if i can get any advice please? Money is getting much much tighter now, and i need all the help i can get!

Trying to decide what to do re food shopping.
I have printed out lots of the GC recipes, for biscuits and cakes etc,as i have noticed that many times i just fancy sweets and stuff, and end up spending lots of money. So my reasoning is that if i aready have lots of that stuff in the house (by baking it myself), i will go into the SMs even less.

BUT (the big but) is that i will need to do a fairly big shop to get the ingrediants for everything to be baked, and also buy some baking trays (i'll make do with the cheap ones for now).

    What do you all think?
You will soon build a store cupboard of baking ingredients. The muffins I made cost approx 60p for 12. I have seen a pack of 12 tiny iced fairy cakes in Li.. and £land but look at the long list of ingredients! Plus they are not substantial - I couldn't eat more than 1 of my muffins in one snack.
I saw a pack of cookie dough in a 99p shop - 16!!! ingredients in just the dough - before you started to read about the topping. I am so anal - stand and read ingredients list when I have NO intention of buying the item.

Jumblejack i would just like to thank you for posting the recipe for the herby cheesy bread. It was lovely we finished the last two pieces today with some hm soup for lunch. I think it will become a standard make in this house as we had the other wedges with salads over the last couple of days.

I agree! I have made it several times now and passed the recipe on to friends.

I haven't bought or made any yeast based bread since JJ posted the recipe! :D

It freezes brilliantly and I warm it in my halogen oven to defrost and crisp it and its like freshly baked, everytime :T

Just popping in quickly to report a spend of £2.59 in M+S. Had no lunch items in :( Luckily my big Mr T shop comes this evening so it should keep me going for a while.

    Evening All,
Managed to swerve a takeaway this evening so feeling pleased with myself. It was however a spend day as the 60 galaxy bars that I ordered from amazon arrived today!
    Night x

Ooh, the will power! Good luck on making those last :rotfl::rotfl:.If you're ever after cheap chocolate I can totally recommend fin carre from !id!. Trouble is, it's so cheap you can never just by one bar :p

Cleggie, start with the basics, then you can just add as you want to try new stuff. I only have one muffin tin, and if there's mixture left I empty it and refill. I use the muffin tin, tray bake and 2lb loaf tin the most. All the ingredients are the cheapest I can buy, basic range flour, baking powder, I don't always have the sugar stated in the recipe but never really notice the difference. We always have eggs and I try to always have stork. The more you bake the more you feel happy to experiment and you just swap things around. And it always tastes nicer than shop bought.
