I've got an iPhone with a case on it, but does anyone know if I take the case off, stick it to the actual phone and put the case back on, if it will still work?
Unless the cover is made of lead or tin foil, I don't see why not.

What happens if an idiotic teenager steals your phone and sells it to someone who has the "Ruin persons life" app? Before you know it, they could have assumed your identity, uploaded new photos to the national database, closed all your bank accounts, and be dating your sister.

this year visa and mastercard and rolling out mobile apps that will allow you all add all your cards to a mobile wallet.
How long will it take me to select which of my umpteen cards I want to pay with?

Hang on, I need to check my balance on this one, I've got an app for that, just a sec...

    Oops, battery just went flat.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis

I think it's just another easier way to pay - and it's covered. Like has been said before, If someone mugs me for my wallet, then cash is gone. If someone steals my phone/pay tag, Barclaycard covers the fraudulent transactions, my phone is insured and I can remotely track/wipe it.

Most people who are going to mug you, are either idiotic teenagers or drug addicts, not everyone is a master mind criminal who can take your phone and suddenly ruin your entire life with it. If they could do that - they could take control of Air Force One with a Nokia 3210

Barclaycard have said they havent tested this and won't support it if it doesn't work. But yes - it should work.

    several points:

not sure how these apps will work but google wallet (similar - only available in the US allows u to specify ur default card. as long as the screen is lit up, the payment will go through if its less than the specified amount (like the £15 limit in the UK) or it will ask you for a pin code if it's over this amount. very straight forward.

there is a further option that paypal have developed whereby you can setup a list of rules - certain shops use certain cards etc. then u don't have to choose a card at all. paypal are also working on an app whereby u pay by paypal and then have a few days to review payments and select which card/bank account they are to come out of.

so there's lots of ways this could be done - not sure which 1 will be chosen - i imagine it will just be "default card" or selecting which 1 you want. you can do this whilst queueing the same way as most people currently do with their physical wallet and cards.

balance will probably also be shown in the same app, possibly recent transactions. no reason why not as far as i know - google wallet does this too.

regarding the battery going flat - the technology would actually allow for it to work without any power as far as i am aware. it could be programmed with a default card and a limit. so the same way you can currently use your unpowered contactless credit card for less than £15 - this could be the same with your phone.

with what has happened at natwest... people not being able to get there cash out or pay for anything for 2 days...

can some people see the danger of a cashless society? fight it with all you can or one day it will get YOU!
  • As long as u diversify and have a credit and debit card at different banks I dont see how its any riskier than cash. Cash could very easily lose its value if people stop trusting it.

i don't quite understand that mate... could you elaborate?
  • If the government keep printing money as they have been to stimulate economic growth then it becomes worth less. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation the whole system is based around trust. If u dont trust a cashless society and banks then why trust cash? U would be better investing in precious metals or a scarce commodity and trade that for goods and services
