How about putting a small present in a large box??

what my parents did one year was to run different coloured wool around the house - you had to follow your colour and unwrap your pressies that where at intervals along the string - would something like that work to help not show the pressie pile size difference?

Both fabulous ideas, and ones I'd never have thought of! Thank you both :A. I had only got as far as thinking "if I lie DS2's presents flat and stand DS1's presents on end, they may look more balanced" :rotfl:. It's funny how you just stick to your own traditions though isn't it? In my house when I was young, no one was allowed in the lounge until everyone was ready to go in together to see if Santa had been. Then we each took it in turns to unwrap a present and everyone watched to see what it was. In DH's house they all opened things at once (they still did as adults when I met DH) and I always thought that it took some enjoyment out of seeing the looks on faces etc. Plus taking turns makes Christmas morning last much longer and makes me feel like I get my monies worth! :D

  • So to catch up on the last few days:

    Friday
Pay day but £100 short on usual :(. Will have to be extra careful.
Weighed in some old clothes & got £2.90
Bought a few more Xmas presents but spent bare minimum. They are for people I only give token gifts to, and I don't normally spend more than £5 each on, but this year one is getting a box of chocs from P0undl@nd and the other a box of sweeties for £2.31 so money saved there.
Spent the afternoon clearing out my bedroom, in an effort to get it ready to decorate. Cleared out drawers (now have 2 empty ones so will be able to condense the furniture we have up there at the moment and get rid of one chest of drawers), emptied jewellery box and threw box away (need new one) and created 3 bags of rubbish, 1 charity shop bag and a couple more bits to add to the eb@y pile. I also found 98p in various coins :D and a Christmas card my Dad sent DS1 the year before he died :(. For some reason this really upset me and I had a good bubble at what could have been.

    Saturday.
Too much info alert - I think Aunt Flo arrived :(:(. I've only not been bleeding for a week since it stopped after the operation. Can't believe it's here so soon and it's now 10 weeks of it. To say I'm fed up is an understatement.
Worked 2-8pm. Was busy but not stupidly so. Think next Saturday will be a nightmare though as everyone will be starting to get their main Christmas food shop.

  • 8 months today since I started this diary! Wowzers where does the time go??

Yesterday was a good day. We all met my family for coffee etc which my Grandma paid for. Then it was my staff night out last night at an Italian restaurant which work paid £5 towards, but it was Happy Hour and I took the car so only spent £10 in total. Was nice to be out!

This morning I called to a friend's house for coffee. Her cousin, who is also my friend, came too and again it was lovely to just sit and chat. Feel a bit guilty that I've had so much 'me' time in the last 24 hours though. I think I've had more since last night than I normally have in a month!

Realised I have to hang my head in shame though! I havent been keeping track of grocery spends like I said I would :o. It totally slipped my mind. Oops Xx

  • Hi PLMBL,

Just liked the sound of your diary, so thought I would pop in and have a quick catch up!

We have similar amounts of starting and current debt, so will definitely keep up with you!!

Loving the idea of putting one of DS1's presents in a bigger box, will definintely be copying that one in the future!!!

Hi mummytogirls! Thanks for stopping by. You are right we do have similar debt amounts, so it will be nice to spur each other on to the finish line!

I had a chat with DS1 about pile sizes :rotfl:. He's fine about the fact that his presents may look smaller but they will have cost the same. He was quite keen that they would probably have the same number of presents though so I will have to make sure that is the case.

NewLeaf you are spot on! Though tonight has been about a load of excited young boys screaming and shouting at the Beaver's Christmas Party! And that was before all the sugar kicked in! My head is battered .
