    Andrea still in hospital
  • Andrea you must be so fed up now :( Big hugs to you. Sounds like you had a nice trip down memory lane there though so hopefully your virtual trip makes up for missing your real trip in some small way.

We ARE at the seaside, or at least we were yesterday afternoon! We are staying at Haggerston Castle just outside Berwick. I lived in Berwick from the age of 2 until 12 and used to come here on a Sunday with my Mum and Dad to go horse riding etc. It's changed immensely but there are still lots of memories here, like the lake where my Dad got us stuck on a pedalo boat and the place where my Grandad was chased by a swan :D. The downside is that it's very expensive now. My boys won't be going horse riding at £15 each for 20 mins .

Yesterday afternoon I drove us into Berwick and showed DH where I used to live and my old school etc. I showed them all last year on our way back from Edinburgh and the boys remembered but DH didn't, so he wanted to see it again. We then went to the Beach and it was spookily the same as it was 22 years ago! The old pavillion was still there and the park etc, lots of memories there too. All good memories from before my Dad got ill and started drinking heavily. Made me feel a little sad as well as happy at what could have been.

Today we have been on the Heathersl@w light railway which DS2 loved, and spent some time at Etal castle. We then went swimming back at the park. It's been a mixed day as I really enjoyed what we did but DH and DS1 have both been at each others throats. DH has been very wound up today and has overreacted to a lot of things, however DS1 has also been a pain in the !!! on occasions and very much Kevin The Teenager (It's so unfair!). DS2 has been more of a handful than usual (he's normally an angel!) and even said he wants to go home!! I feel very much "why do I bother trying to do nice things for this lot?" :(.

We are running out of money fast

Thanks for the mid-holiday update! Bit of a mixture of emotions... :o *hug*

Keep enjoying and try not to stress about the money :) I'm sure there'll be plenty you's can do without handing over ££.

Happy holidays Lucky; how lovely to be able to tell your boys about your own childhood experiences at the same place! :D ..And of course you already know where to find lots of off-site activities (to me, that's a definite plus ;)).

Must say I've always been a bit wary of organised holiday camps because of the cost of "extras" such as the horse-riding - that's where I'd give in and get out my CC if the experience was really unusual - wouldn't do it for a pony ride though!

Just make sure you get everyone fed before they're too tired, to minimise grumps between your lads - all those activities and the ozone in the sea air will have an effect.. ;)

Andrea, (((hugs))) you have some lovely memories of your sea-side trips; do hope it's not too long before you and your DH can get out of hospital and treat yourselves. :)

Sounds like you're having a lovely time P! You so deserve this break. How lovely to share your childhood memories with your boys!

Andrea - hope you up and running again soon (hubby too). You mentioned Hunstanton. We went there for Mr SA's birthday at the end of April last year. Only 2 hours drive from where we live. Sunny Hunny as it's known - it rained for the whole time we were there! There were even ducks swimming in a puddle outside our caravan. Still it beat his birthday this year in hospital neuro ward!

Carry on enjoying your holiday P!
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Andrea I think you are on the right lines with DH. He admitted last night that his ribs are really sore on his left side and he has probably bruised/cracked them during the last seizure. He didn't want to worry me over it but instead it's made him really grumpy. We talked it all through last night and today has been much better.

It was bucketing down this morning so we decided to go to a soft play just over the border in Scotland. It cost £10 to get in and another £7 for drinks but I think it was a good decision. The boys got to blow off steam and DH and I got a chance to be calm and chat over coffee. This afternoon we went swimming again and we are currently watching one of the dvds we brought from home. The sun has just made an appearance and it's supposed to stick around tomorrow so we are thinking of doing something like the Farne Islands or Bamburgh on the way home. It will have to be cheap though - our savings account is now £0, I have £17 in the bank and about 40p in my purse! We are due some more money tomorrow but that's needed for bills due out on Monday.

  • LOL don't you love it when you go away in old blighty and you end up on the sofa watching an old dvd cos the weather is so carp outside! We did this quite a few times when we visited the lake district the other year was a little annoying to say the least! I hope the rest of the holiday goes well and i found constantly feeding the kids kept them happy (and dh for that matter ;))

andrea hugs to you I don't know the ins and outs as to why you're in hospital just little snippets over all the diaries but it doesn't sound great so thank god for wifi as you say :) xx
